Introduction
I bought my B6 S4 a year old with 10k miles on it, which at the time was a great deal compared to the M3. It has the wonderful 4.2L V8, 6MT, black, black/silver alcantara, convenience package, among other things. At first, it seemed like a lemon - I'm not sure how the previous owner treated the car. During the first year of ownership, I had to replace the transmission and both front window motors. But since then, I have had a great time putting on the balance of 50k miles with no further problems. The S4 is my daily driver...well my only car really. I've been fortunate enough to live a few years with it near the mountains, so I've had a fair amount of play time up in the twistys. I've also taken it for multiple road trips, benefiting from the S4's stellar touring ability. It is truly a great alternative to the ever-present M3. I definitely feel like I have an exclusive car because I just don't see many S models. On the flip side, it's unfortunate that most uninformed people do not know anything about the S4 but it's been rewarding getting them up to speed on the details.

Exterior Styling - 10
At the time of purchase, there wasn't a single better looking car on the market under $60k.

Interior Styling - 10
Great ergonimics, styling.

Exterior Build/Materials Quality - 10
Still looks like I just drove it off the lot.

Interior Build/Materials Quality - 10
I provide my driver's seat a thorough testing and it has held up very well.

Engine Performance - 10
Compared to engines available at the time, the V8 was definitely one of the best.

Handling/Braking - 8
The S4 is disadvantaged in this category because of it's weight.

Fuel Efficiency - 7
I average 15 mpg with mostly city use. Road trips usually average 19 mpg (due to unlawful speeds).

Available Features/Options - 9
Technology-wise, I feel that Audi is a little conservative compared to other makes. However, this car has suited my everyday needs, with the inclusion of a ski sack as it is perfect for transporting my hockey gear.

Cost of Ownership - 9
Bad fuel efficiency brings this down to a 9. Other than that, insurance premiums haven't been that bad and my cost of maintenance and repairs have been $0.

Value - 10
Even today, I feel that the S4 provides the most all around value.

Conclusion
Whether I'm on the highway, city roads or moutain trails, the S4 has performed gracefully while leaving me feeling completely safe and sure-footed. At around $30k, it remains as one of the best bang for your buck vehicles, even when compared to new cars.
