Introduction
X5 4.8i Test Drive

Exterior Styling - 10

Interior Styling - 9
Beautiful. One of the best BMW interior designs. The one negative? Too similar to other Bimmers in design, if not material quality.

Exterior Build/Materials Quality - 10
This was just a test drive, but it seemed perfectly-constructed to me.

Interior Build/Materials Quality - 10
Best-built in BMW's lineup.

Engine Performance - 10
Superb straight-line speed. Very satisfying exhaust note at high revs. A lot more fun than the Cayenne S, which oddly makes you feel isolated and sounds like a turbine. I drove the Porsche the same day- no comparison.

Handling/Braking - 10
As usual for BMW...

Fuel Efficiency - 5
It shouldn't weigh this much (only 4 inches longer than the 500lbs lighter Lexus RX350), which effects mileage dramatically. Not impressed with this part of the car.

Available Features/Options - 10
Wow. One of the most comprehensive arrays of useful optional features that I've ever seen on any car. Almost too tempting- climbs over $70K easily.

Cost of Ownership - 8
Gas mileage!

Value - 9
The best value in the eight-cylinder luxo-ute class.

Conclusion
An incredible SAV that excels on the road. Beautifully-done inside and out. 4.8i engine fits the car like a glove. $15K less than a comparably-equipped Cayenne S-- and it drives better. I hope I end up buying this car for my wife.
