My Review of A&L Motor Sales:
My experience with the service center at A&L Motors was terrible. They had my 1996 Land Rover Discovery in their shop for more than a month for what should have been relatively minor repairs - a leaky seal here and there, wheel bearings and some worn hoses that needed to be replaced.

Before I agreed to have any repairs made, I asked if they thought that the vehicle was worth repairing. They told me that the vehicle was in good condition, was solid and seemed like it would be worthwhile to make the repairs.

At first, communication with the service department manager was pleasant. However, I soon found that he didn't seem to have a clue as to what was being done to my vehicle at any given time. I'd get a phone call telling me that a certain repair had been finished, then a few days later, I'd get a call and he would tell me that the repair that he said was finished had actually just been started, or that the parts had just been ordered and they were awaiting delivery.

After weeks of play by play and being jerked around, I finally got a call saying that my vehicle was finished. One of the mechanics took it for a test run and said it was "good to go", and since I am not a mechanic, I was foolish enough to believe it.

Everything seemed to be great and I was pleased to be back on the road after 32 days, but as soon as I got out of Pittsburgh and into lighter Interstate traffic, I heard something that sounded a lot like the engine backfiring - except that it happened every time the transmission shifted gears. Since I was too far out of the city to turn around, I simply drove the vehicle home.

I had the vehicle towed back to A&L Motors (more than 70 miles)for a second time and a different mechanic determined that the transmission kick-down cable had been installed incorrectly. He "corrected" it, but the loud shifting problem persisted. This mechanic also revealed that they were unsure of how the kick-down cable was supposed to have been installed, and they were unsure of the manufacturer's instructions.

I asked them to install a new transmission at their cost, since there had been no problem when I dropped it off there, and mine had likely been damaged. They refused, and the vehicle they told me was worth repairing suddenly was "defective" and my particular model was "discontinued" by the manufacturer.

The vehicle on which I spent more than $4000 in repairs is no longer running. The transmission has given out and I am left with a giant paperweight in my driveway.

I wish I had never heard of A&L Motors. I would not ever buy a new car from them, and I would not recommend their service department.
