My Review of Antwerpen Chevrolet:
The letter I mailed to Jack Antwerpen: Mr. Jack Antwerpen 12420 Auto Drive Clarksville, MD 21029
Dear Mr. Antwerpen: I am writing to you concerning the extremely deceptive, rude, and unacceptable treatment we received at the hands of your dealership for Antwerpen Mitsubishi Kia in Randallstown on May 3, 2008. I listed a car for sale on April 30, 2008, in the Baltimore Sun. A 2002 Dodge Stratus with 8000 miles for $10,000 in excellent, like new condition. On Wednesday, April 30, I received a call from a woman named Goldy who works at that location. She said that they were interested in buying our car and if we would bring it to the dealership on Saturday, May 3, if the car was in the condition stated they would buy it for our asking price.
She also stated (as I knew), that I could probably get more for a private sale. I told her I was not interested in trading in the car. She said she understood that and told me that this was for purchase by your business. To make sure the car was in tip-top shape/clean, I spent $250 on May 2 to get the car professionally detailed. The detailer also told me that the car was in excellent condition, which it is.
On the morning of May 3, Goldie called AGAIN to confirm that we were bringing the car in between 2 – 4 p.m, when the appraiser would be there. My husband and I drove from Westminster to your dealership on Liberty and Offut Road. I drove our second car as well, in the event that the offer extended would be confirmed. So, your folks initiated this contact, called me twice, and led me to believe they were sincere in the offer. I was told to bring my drivers license, the title and the car. We arrived at 1:30 and while paperwork was done for an estimate, the car was evaluated at 2:00.
Your folks gave it an A+ for condition on the sheet. At that time, we were offered HALF of the amount we had been asking—and had been told would be offered—$5,000, which is less than the Kelly Blue Book estimate. I am extremely angry and upset at being jerked around like this and I think it is highly unethical, unprofessional, inappropriate and completely avoidable on your company’s behalf. The man appraising the car said it was in excellent condition as did another man there who looked at it. This car has been ‘babied’ and kept under a dust cover on an enclosed carport—away from the pollen, weather elements, and birds and insects. It has extremely low mileage.
Despite this, a value was computed and we were told the best offer was $5,000. I asked to speak to the manager. An assistant manager (Darlington) came over to talk to me. After I told him what I have just said in this letter, he went to talk to the manager to see if he would reconsider. Darlington told me that the manager said no, he would not offer what we had been told they would pay. The manager refused to come out and speak to me! Apparently, since his wife and three kids were visiting the showroom, family time was more important than taking care of a customer. Darlington tried to apologize for everything. I am deeply offended by this treatment.
On top of everything else, when we got home I saw that your folks had smudged the windows, had handprints all over the door handle areas, trunk lid and hood areas, and had basically ruined the exterior detailing work I had had done! You wasted half of my Saturday—and I DO work 50-60 hours a week, wasted gasoline for driving two cars from Westminster to Randallstown at the current exorbitant gas prices, and for what? These people represent YOU. My first—and last—experience with your business practices leaves a lot to be desired. Your ads all say “Jack says YES.” Well, based on my experience with your folks, I am highly unimpressed, unhappy and not content to stay silent about it. I certainly plan to make my unsatisfactory experience at Antwerpen known and will tell folks to SAY NO TO JACK.
