Reason for Visit: Service
I recommend this dealer: No
My Review of Auto-Strasse, Ltd. BMW:
service for my 1995 325i convertible
issue: oil change
outcome: quoted $150. Not a very competitive price, even for a dealer. (I can buy the computer-reset tool myself for only $75), opted not to have it done here.
issue: Driver's seat does not tilt forward with lever
outcome: Same problem I had fixed at this same dealership 2 years before, quoted $116 (no discount for "fix" only lasting 8000 miles). technician stated "No problem found, seat working at present time", but in fact did not work as lifting the lever immediately showed on pick-up (technician maybe tried power seat controls, which were fine?). brought it to Kevin's attention who's response was "we can't fix it now, bring it back [in two weeks]". Fixed it myself at home in 5 minutes by re-seating a loose retaining clip where the cable terminates under the seat.
issue: trunk does not latch
outcome: "straightened trunk latch mount" $52.50+tax
issue: (quoting Kevin's computer entry) "The left fog lamp is broken. EST for repairs"
outcome: (quoting technician's entry) "Repl RT Foglight Lense"(sic)
This ones a two-fer: 1-charged for work I did not request, 2-did not fix the problem I had asked them to. To my knowledge there was nothing wrong with the right fog lamp, and the service entry clearly says "left". In any case, if there was any ambiguity, the left foglamp had actually filled with water, and was orange with rust, and turning it on quickly reveals that the right bulb lights and the left does not. It never occured to me that there was any way to screw that up, so I didn't notice it until I got home. Was billed $102.25+tax for service I did not request. After explaining to Kevin over the phone, he claimed the service tech said "the lens was cracked". He not only would not refund my CC for the non-requested service, but wouldn't offer anything better than a "10% discount" on the part I did not order and a time slot in two weeks to have the originally requested work done. After explaining that they would never see me or my car again, he called the following week to offer to schedule a time to replace the left, and would "waive the labor" on the other lamp. I've ordered the part on the internet, and will install it myself.
Yes, yes, I should have thourougly inspected all work done, and taken delivery of any replaced parts before signing acceptance and making payment. I take responsibility for failing to do that, but it doesn't change the fact that although I don't know where my wife and I will buy our next BMWs (great cars!), I know it won't be here.
