My Review of Bay Ridge Honda:
I purchased a new Honda Civic EX, at Bay Ridge Honda in Brooklyn, NY in June 2003. The sales team was very professional and one of the selling points was the quality of their service center.

In late January 2004 we had an incident with the car in the middle of a snowstorm. The car performed a 360-degree spin on icy surface and veered off the road and came to a stop in a ditch. Given that the car had scraped over rocks when veering off the road and going through the ditch until coming to a stop at the edge off it in the snow, We were worried that the car had undercarriage damage.

The next day we called Bay Ridge Honda, explaining the incident and asking to bring the car in for a detailed review of the undercarriage and analysis of the damage. We were told that we had to wait for a service appointment – the earliest appointment was 1 full month later.

The apparent inspection and service was completed in Feb, 2004 and included an oil change and the full 7,500mile inspection. The shield and a few missing clips for the front plastic skirt on the front fender were replaced as well. Apparently, the car was otherwise in proper working order. We relied on this professional assessment.

Despite this service, we started to notice that the car increasingly started to develop a rough idle, the transmission started to slip and bang into gear at acceleration and the entire car started to shake (hood and car vibrating).

Because we just had the car in service, we did not immediately go back to the service garage. As the rattling got worse we did bring the car back to the service garage (after again waiting for an appointment for about 2 weeks) in May 2004. When we brought the car in for service, we referred to the recent service and told the service representative that we had since noticed transmission issues that we would like to get checked out.

To our huge surprise we received a call back from the service garage stating that the car needed body work as several engine mounts were broken off, there was a dent and leak in the oil pan, the engine had barely any oil left and the radiator was bent up and the front fender was bent up as well and mounts for the exhaust had come loose.

Additionally the transmission problem was caused by the broken engine mounts and damaged engine cradle! The total estimated damage was well in excess of $2000.

We expected to have undercarriage damage given the severity of the incident in January and were falsely relieved and trusted the assessment of the local Honda garage. Due to the negligence of the service garage, we could have ended up in a severe accident and/or destroyed the entire engine of the car as well.

My Review of Bay Ridge Honda:
Bought my car and had it serviced here. Sale experience was good -- mostly courteous and professional, but they nickeled and dimed me at the end (overcharged on the Motor Vehicle fees and never retured the money).
Service is BAD. They seem nice, modern, professional, but communication is terrible (the guy you talk to doesn't even know what was done to your car). They do not try to duplicate the problem, they replace parts and hope that it fixes the problem. My car has been in the shop 6 times in the last 2 months, they keep blindly replace parts without even knowing what the problem is.
They sell and service too many different makes so there are no specialists and you never get personal service.

They service manager is an idiot---didnt even know the phone numner for Honda service.

Avoid this dealer at all cossts
