My Review of Bill Estes Chevrolet:
Have brought our Alero to Estes Chevrolet for rotor and pads replacement because of brake pulsating. First was fixed by Olds dealer at 7000 miles for free. Estes fixed again at 28,000 miles and blamed Olds dealer for poor service and us for the way we drove it! GM paid 1/2 cost of repairs. At 41,000 miles, brakes again pulsated and grinded; took it to CarX for another opinoin since this was 3rd time with GM parts & dealers being used before. CarX said rotors & pads needed to be replaced; would charge us $284. In order to work again with GM Customer Service, then brought car back into Estes Chevrolet . Told us we were "racing" the car and caliper was bad, causing rotors and pads to wear again! Called GM Service Center; they only offered to pay half. Estes told us the estimate was $1000 to fix the brake problems; GM Service Center told us Estes gave them an $800 estimate. Pressed GM to find out the discrepancy; no adequate response. I asked if GM was offering to pay 1/2 so Estes still would make money on the deal when this is now a product liability and engineering issue - brake problems have been constant since 99-03 Aleros per Car-X and my own research. GM would not put their offer in E-mail or fax to me and if I decided to get car fixed by Estes, would not agree to give me the old brake parts. Did not let Estes fix the car since the estimate was very high, problem blamed on us (instead of past work Estes did or poor brake engineering). Took it back to CarX, had them again check brakes, especially calipers. CarX again said calipers were fine, fixed rotors and pads, and stated thin metal of rotors in GM cars caused pads to have excessive wear and continuous brake problems. CarX charged $284 and gave us the old parts. They suggested we come in every 6 months so they could replace the pads before they wore down.

Estes Chevrolet did not identify the problem(s) with the brakes, tried to overcharge for the job, and the service manager blamed us "racing" the car for a non-existant caliper problem. The attitude of the mangers was flippant, rude and ignorant of what customer satisfaction means. They even gave examples of other GM cars who had to have their brakes done every 20,000 miles! I would never go back to this dealer because of different quotes on the same brake job, stating repairs that were not needed, not understanding the GM brake system problems, unwillingness to return old parts, blaming problems on other dealers or the driver, and poor quality service with the last brake replacement. In my opinion, this is a very questionable and dishonest way to do business. Estes and GM have been reported to BBB, NTSB, Ralph Nader and other consumer agencies. Other options to resolve problem and get complete customer satisfaction are being investigated.

As a customer of Bill Estes Chevrolet we are concerned that you feel you were not treated in a fair and courteous manner. At Bill Estes Chevrolet we strive to offer the best experience in both sales and service. Unfortunately there are some situations for which there are no mutually acceptable resolutions. When a solution that doesn’t satisfy all parties involved does occur, we do our best to offer as many options as possible. In this case we are faced with several issues.

The first being price. We recommend the use of GM parts on all repairs that we perform. These parts have a GM warranty that covers parts and labor at any GM dealer across the nation. While we also can offer aftermarket parts at a cost savings, the savings is the result of a limited warranty and parts quality. Most aftermarket parts not only limit their warranty but also do not cover labor or nationwide coverage.

The second issue is product quality. A check of the NHTSA’s web site resulted in no known brake issues on the vehicle described here. The causes of brake pulsation and or rotors warping are many. Driver habits, sticking calipers, improper torque of vehicle wheels and rear brakes that have not been adjusted properly are just a few possibilities. Due to different driver habits, road conditions and situations (city verses highway), it is very possible for one vehicle to get 60,000 miles out of a set of brakes, while another gets less then 30,000.

The last issue is with the return of old parts. It is our policy to always offer the return of replaced parts to any and all customers who request them. The only exception to this rule is when the repair is covered under GM warranty. GM warranty policy requires us to return all replaced parts to them for inspection. This insures that all replaced parts are checked for defects and are inspected for possible improvements by the venders who supply these parts to GM.

In conclusion, we regret that this customer was not completely satisfied with the service they received at Bill Estes Chevrolet. Without more specifics we can only offer our apology and the fact that we maintain one of the highest rankings in both GM training and Customer service in our entire market.

We wish that Ms Josleyn had contacted us to resolve her concerns. Unfortunately we can only solve the problems about which we are made aware. As the highest rated Customer Satisfaction Chevrolet Dealer in the Indianapolis area, we strive for complete satisfaction with every one of our customers.
