My Review of Boston Volkswagen:
I don't think I ever had a good experience when I brought a car in for service, so this place does not necessarily stand out, but I still wanted to share my experience.
I bought my 98 Golf GL used from the owner in 2000. The car had originally been purchased from Boston VW. I had been dealing with the check engine light coming on for a while when I decided to have it fixed in May 2004. I was told that the car needed some new vacuum hoses, an engine breather valve and potentially a new throttle body housing, approx. $800 worth of parts and labor. I got away without the new throttle body housing, still paid around $400 and the check engine light was on again on the way home. They said they had cleaned the throttle body.
Now, 3 month later with the check engine light still on the car failed the emission test and I took things in my own hands. I cleaned the throttle body myself (it did not look like anybody had touched it recently), a 10 minute job with a $2.50 throttle body cleaner spray from the store and my old toothbrush, reset the computer and voilá, the check engine light is off.
The customer service staff did not deal well with my complaints. In some places they weasel themselves out of a sticky situation by becoming overly friendly and accomodating. Here they just became aggressive, interrupted me while I was explaining etc. I will not return, even if I have to drive twice as far for service.
