My Review of Brent Brown:
We had our Camry taken to Brent Brown Toyota (after our son drove it cross-country out to Utah) to have the break specs checked. Jason in service told us we $2000 worth of work on the car, including a front brake job (and $1,600 worth of other work (this after we had the car worked on and throughly checked over in Pa. before the trip, and we had quite a bit of stuff done).
We let them do the front brakes, and five months later we had noise in the front brakes and a Draper Utah Toyota dealership told us that on the previous front brake job (Brown Toyota) the shims were not put back in, (which caused the pads to wear badly) and the rotors were over turned. We needed new rotors as well as pads. The Brown brake job only lasted 5,000 miles and about six months. We " any of the other things they said we "needed" done. Read on....
At the same time of the Brown brake job, Jason told my son, (who is not well versed in cars and looks like a novice, very bookish) that he needed $1,600 worth of other work done:
1. He said it had a head gasket leak, (we chose not to have them fix this and 50,000 miles later it still holds oil and there is no evidence of a head gasket leak).
2. He also said that the rear axle "fluid" was leaking on our rear breaks. Our dealership here at home in Pa. told us that on a front wheel drive car, there is no fluid in the rear axles, only grease and bearings. Jason also tried to tell me that this leak had something to do with some cracked rear axle "boots" (which don't exist on the back I believe. I thought at first that he was talking about our front CV boots, which we had replaced before the trip out west, and asked him if he was talking about these and he said "no, the rear ones".
3. He also said that the power steering fluid was leaking onto the timing belt and we needed a new timing belt, because of this (the timing belt was one of the thingse had had replaced before the drive out west, but our apparently our dealer in Pa. failed to put a sticker under the hood showing that). A year later we did have to have the power steering leak fixed, but our dealership said that the fluid wasn't () drip onto the timing belt.
I did complain directly to Brent Brown himself (this was about three years ago, before I knew about this site) after we needed to have the front brakes redone in half a year, and he did refund us some money, over $100. Not the full amount of the brake job, however.
