My Review of Brockman Automotive:
On Saturday July 12 2008, after several emails and phone calls over the preceding two days, I was invited by Brockman telemarketer "Nicole" to come to the lot and see the Toyota Corolla I was interested in which I had found on the website. She never told me she was a telemarketer and not an actual car salesperson, but she did describe the car in good detail and I accepted the invitation, even though it is a 70 mile trip from my home in Asheville, which she knew. I told her I would ask for her when I got there.
My wife and I drove down and when we got there we were met by "David" on the lot. I asked to see Nicole, but he explained that she was not a salesperson and that he would take care of us. However, when he learned that we were only interested in seeing the 97 Corolla, he quickly realized that he had "other customers waiting" and then handed us off to a younger salesman named "Scooter."
Scooter took us to another building and disappeared for a minute. When he returned he informed us that the Corolla had been sold yesterday (Friday), but he had a nice Chrysler he'd like to show us. I said that his telemarketer told me today that the Corolla was in stock for my inspection and she invited me to come see it. Scooter said that the telemarketers do not always have the latest information about the inventory.
I was livid. I told Scooter that the telemarketers have NO business inviting people to come see cars if they themselves have no firm knowledge of the inventory. That is a horrible "business" practice which is tantamount to bait-and-switch. We got up and left Brockman Automotive as quickly as possible.
I'm well experienced and consider myself a fairly shrewd customer, but Brockman fooled me anyway. We wasted most of an entire day, $40 worth of gasoline, and significant wear-and-tear on our existing car. I did not think my frustration and anger could have been exceeded by Brockman Automotive's shameful and careless practices until I finally got home and discovered a new email stating that I had an "appointment" to come and see the non-existent car, followed later by two "thank yous" for coming!
AVOID BROCKMAN AUTOMOTIVE!!!
