My Review of Brookline Audi:
When I first purchased my car, I didn't have any other vehicle. I was a student in college fairly far off with my parents opting to pay the leases on my vehicle for me. I was greeted by Chris who was distanced and didn't want to let me drive any of the cars. He constantly asked me about money and how I would afford this thing and he would even rebuke me if I touched the glass on a car. After I sat down with him, his first statement was, “We cannot offer any deals." It was an intense and high-pressure situation as he calmly sipped coffee and threw excuses at me. After a short while, he leaned forward and said, "Let me cut you a deal," and gave me the worst deal of my life: a price just above the invoice. According to Kelley Blue book, I should've saved at least another $2k but he refused to make any concessions. Afterward, we proceeded to the Finance office where I was thrown more offers and high APRs with which I felt so overwhelmed. Marvin kept telling me I needed things like the tire warranty and teflon coat for my car as well as Lo-jack. I eventually had to call my parents. With my mother on speakerphone, told Marvin that I would only get the tire warranty (a whole another issue to talk about since I wasn't reimbursed after a tire puncture). I left the dealership that day extremely stressed. I couldn't pick up my car for a long time since I had no time to get to the dealership between classes or otherwise. Eventually, Chris decided to give me a ride from my school to the dealership, which seemed to be a pity ride for the price he made me pay.
In regards to the service department, I had hit a pothole after about 1 year of ownership of my car. Apparently the sewer grate that I had hit tore into my transmission and easily surmounted to a $3k+ problem. Naturally I bring in my car to Audi of Brookline and I received very little nformation regarding what was done. In a series of long drawn out phone calls, there was a disparity between my insurance and their service department. My insurance (Commerce) constantly insisted they would pay for everything minus the deductible while Audi of Brookline insisted that they would not. After 6 weeks in the shop, I still did not receive my full payment. With a deductible of only $300, I ended up paying over $800 out of pocket just so I could finally have my car back. My service coordinator had been a blonde haired fellow who has since then been fired. It was almost an injustice how Audi of Brookline refused to simply call my insurance company. I had to work as the middle man myself on top of a work/school schedule. Simply put, it was one hell of a month.
What caused me to write this critical review is that recently, I returned to Audi of Brookline for a free maintenance only to be told that there were more things wrong with my car (i.e. brakes, should get alignment, should get new tires, etc.). My car sits under 30k miles and they're already recommending me to get new brake pads and tires? If you google it, you can see that people generally change their tires every 35-40k miles and their brake pads/rotors at every 40-50k miles. They gave me some generic answer like, "Oh I'm not sure the exact number but it's close enough to pose a hazard according to Audi's standards." When I asked what these standards were, it turned out to be 5/32" for tires and 4mm for brake pads. Again you can google it and find out that tires can be ran until 2/32" and brake pads just less than 2mm just fine.
In short, I'm just tired of being nickled and dimed at Audi of Brookline. I just want an honest shop where I can get my car in, fixed, and be on my merry way. If you are like me, then you don't want to play a guessing game and you want the most out of your car without having to change things every time you head into a dealership. I'd highly recommend other places if you don't have a free maintenance to take.
