Reason for Visit: Service

I recommend this dealer: No

My Review of Courtesy Hyundai:
I have taken my Elantra and my wife’s Camry to Courtesy Hyundai in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, from December of last year. While I have received quality service in the past, my last visit was a terrible experience. They first called me and an inept mechanic with poor communication skills tried to explain that they are experiencing problems while changing the oil on my Elantra, though I could not understand if my oil pan was stripped or if there was some other issues. After I made some inquiries, I found out that the drain plug was stripped of its threads (probably due to poor handling) and I agreed to have this “minor issue” fixed. The gentleman in Courtesy Hyundai in Pawtucket installed a new drain plug (and charged me over five dollars for it), overfilled my engine with oil to prevent my engine from seizing before I got home. The following morning, I found a puddle of oil underneath my car. After I confronted the maintenance manager three days later, after the weekend, I found that they will not take any responsibility for the botched job, explaining that the damage was done “somewhere else”. They even produced some used oil filter, claiming that it came from my car (3 days after, no less), though I know that that filter is used only in Honda vehicles (I’ve worked with foreign auto parts for the last six years).

In good faith, I contacted the general manager of the dealership and I was switched to an individual named Eric, who claimed that he was the manager on duty that day. He promised to investigate my claim and to call me back. This took place about three days ago, and I never received a call.

Not only have they damaged my car, they lied to me and tried to make a fool out of me. I will never go there again, and neither should you.

Reason for Visit: Sales

I recommend this dealer: No

My Review of Courtesy Hyundai:
I spoke with the sales manager and had pre-applied for financing, fully expecting to purchase a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe on Saturday. I was handed off to a salesperson, if you call him that, Mark Tapley, who had no idea what I had already discussed with Paul Darosa. I was very specific in what I was looking for, and was told that there were 2004 Santa Fe's in stock in the mid-teens by Paul. I was also very up front about my trade in. I even sent in my application and was pre-approved for financing.

When I got there, Mark was very evasive in pricing and what my approved finance rate was. After stalling for over 45 minutes, he came back with a $22,000 price and a trade offer that was unrealist for an Acura CL, which I had advised was necessary in order to complete the deal. I was told a monthly payment of over $500 a month, which was ridiculous. The "person" behind the desk that Mark was stalling with and working on pricing was very rude to me and my fiance. He didn't know anything about my appointment or what was discussed with Paul Darosa. He told us my car wasn't worth even $6,500 and we should go elsewhere.

There should have been paperwork made out and a list of the specific vehicles that were in the price range I wanted to spend instead of walking me through the lot to pick out a car. I was lead to the back lot of 2004 Santa Fe's, so assumed these were the ones that were discounted. I specifically referred to the rebate of $1,500 and the special manufacturer incentives that you are advertising on television. I am shocked at the treatment when I was very specific of not wanting to go in unless this deal was going to work for both parties.

In closing, I will be going to another dealer to purchase a 2004 Santa Fe. I will not buy a car from Pride in Pawtucket. I was a serious buyer and expected to be treated seriously when I went into the dealership. Instead there were stalling games and unrealistic pricing. You should not advertise and tell potential customers misinformation if you want to make sales. Besides the misinformation, the treatment by the sales staff was completely rude. Paul Derosa disappeared after I introduced myself to him. If he was still there when I walked out, I would have let him know as well.
