Reason for Visit: Sales
I recommend this dealer: No
My Review of Crabtree Cadillac-Oldsmobile:
WOW!!! I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!!
YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS EXPERIENCE!!!
I visited the dealership in Shelton one Saturday morning after seeing their TV commercial for $5000 for ANY trade-in.
I saw a 2001 Lexus RX300 with 41,000 miles. Like all cars on the lot, there was no price on it. Told the salesman I was interested and asked for the price. He said he didn't have that information because the car just came in. He gave me the keys and let me sit in it and tinker around.
I said it was a nice car but it might be out of my price range. I asked how much it was again . He responded by saying that his manager would get upset if he didn't let me test drive it first.
He went inside to grab the plate and I waited in the lot. While waiting, another dealer asked if I was being helped. I asked him how much the Lexus was. He told me it was $28k.
The 1st salesman returned and we drove off. We talked about how I would pay for the car. (unbeknownst to him that another dealer told me how much the car was) I mentioned that I had a trade-in.. a 1991 Honda Accord with 189,000 miles on it.
When we returned, I asked him again how much the car was and mentioned that I've already spent 45 minutes with him and still knew nothing about the price.
We sat down in the showroom and he started asking me for my personal information. I told him :
"We are not at that point yet, I need to know how much this car is. I might not even be able to afford this car"
He then started asking me about my trade-in. Getting more and more frustrated I said to him:
"It doesn't matter, it's worth $5,000 no matter what I tell you"
Sensing my anger, he said he was going to find out the price for me. He told me:
"After your trade-in, the asking price for the car is $27,900"
I said "No way is that a $33,000 vehicle"
He then tells me that it's advertised in AutoPix for that price.(I doubt there was any ad since the car supposedly had just come in)

I checked and realized the highest retail price for that car would be $28,455. So my trade should put me @ $23,455.
I returned the following Wednesday after work. The dealer who I had been working with was no longer working there. One of the big wigs came out and sat down with me in the showroom and I explained how things went previously.
I asked why they tried to literally steal my car from me. I asked him to back into that claim of it being a $33k car. He also refused to show me how they come up with the retail value and to prove me wrong that $28k was not the price.
He started telling me that if the true value of the Lexus was $28k he would have to raise that price based on the fact that he couldn't get more than $1k for my car.
I responded by saying if that was the case then his advertising was misleading because my trade wouldn't be valued at $5,000 afterall. He asked me to put myself in his shoes and give someone $5k for a $1k car.
I told him to think like an educated man!! I said to him that any consumer would think that by offering $5k for ANY trade-in , a dealer would have a big enough margin on the car to absorb the deficit of the trade.
I offered him my car plus $23,455 cash and he couldn't touch it.
What they are doing should be illegal!!! Maybe it is, I don't know. Its just plain old deception. Not only do they not put prices on the cars, but they size you up before telling you the price; which means that the price of the car could be different for me than it is for you.
BUYER BEWARE!
