My Review Of Darling's Auto Mall:
The following explanation is quite lengthy, but I felt the whole story needed to be told so that you would fully appreciate the great service I received from Mike Ellis.
One Sunday, I was on my way to a town about 45 miles outside of Bangor, when I noticed that the air in my left passenger tire was dropping rapidly. Since I was only 5-10 minutes from Bangor and not knowing what service might be available if I continued in my present direction, I decided to return to Bangor for help. By the time I got there, the tire was completely flat. I pressed the On-Star button for assistance and they connected me with the motor club. Because there were not many options available for service, I was asked if I wanted my car towed to either Walmart or Sears. I chose Sears. When the tow truck arrived, the driver hooked up the winch and started pulling my car onto the truck when all of a sudden I heard a hissing noise. The driver unhooked the winch and hooked it to the other side of the vehicle but did not offer me any explanation for doing so. The car was loaded onto the flat bed and we were on our way. After a few miles, I asked him what the hissing noise was that I heard and he said that evidently the hook from the winch punctured the front tire on the drivers side. He said the tow company would pay for repairing the tire or, if it couldn't be repaired, would pay for a replacement. When we got to Sears, it wasn't yet open so the driver dropped me and my car off to wait until it was. It was raining and I was in a car with two flat tires -- it wasn't a great feeling.
The technicians at Sears were very nice but, unfortunately, did not have tires that would fit my car. They called several other stores in an attempt to find some, but were unsuccessful. They offered to order them but said it would be 5-7 days before they would be received. Not wanting to wait that long for my car, I decided to leave everything until Monday when more stores would be open and hoped that tires could be found sooner that 5-7 days.
First thing Monday morning, I called Mike Ellis at Darlings Auto Mall in Ellsworth, explained what happened and asked if he had tires available that would fit my car. He didn't but said he would check into getting some and call me back. When he called, Mike had a plan of action that changed everything. He told me to call the motor club and arrange for the tow truck to pick up my car from Sears and deliver it to Darlings, all at no expense to me. Tires were ordered, to be delivered by Wednesday (only two days) and he would have arranged for a rental car, if I had needed one. I can't tell you how relieved I was that my problem was solved!
That could have been the end of the story but it's not.
My car was actually ready on Tuesday. It had been washed and Mike noticed that my inspection sticker had run out, so replaced that, too. The service Mike gave me wasn't just great, it was exceptional. I am not someone who is the service department often so it is not as though we are friends or really even know one another, other than by name. Yet, I know, after this experience, that I can count on him to be there for me - and my car!
