My Review of Devoe Pontiac-GMC Truck Inc:
Sorry -- but one review was not enough for me! I have been to DeVoe Pontiac for service many times (see my other review), but I've also been there for sales -- and if I could possibly believe it, my sales experience was just as bad. Below are details of that account.

In July of 2002, my wife and I were shopping for a new car for her. She wanted the new Pontiac Vibe, so we went to DeVoe to get some information. This was the first new car I had been personally involved with purchasing since my Trans Am in 1998 (see my review for Red Holman Pontiac/GMC in Westland, Michigan), and I was expecting a similarly pleasant experience. But THIS WAS NOT TO BE at DeVoe Pontiac.

The salesman I spoke to was named Chris. He was a pleasant enough fellow, to be sure, and let us take the Vibe demo out for a run around the block. When we got back, we spoke to him for a bit about the car. The Vibe was a new vehicle at the time, and supplies were limited. This is understandable.

But my wife and I made it quite clear that we were interested in certain features, and much to Chris' apparent dismay, the only Vibes on DeVoe's lot did not have those features. So rather than offer to order us a vehicle from the factory or call us when a vehicle we wanted arrived, Chris told us lies in an attempt to get us to make an impulse decision to buy one of the cars he DID have in stock. He claimed that ALL GM cars were equipped with PASS-Key theft deterrent systems STANDARD, so we did not need to wait for a Vibe with the security system option. (The cars he had on the lot didn't have this.) PASS-Key is a system by which a chip is embedded on the ignition key and is used only in high-end GM cars like the Corvette and Trans Am. I went along with Chris' conversation, but it was clear he was trying to sucker us in. He also pushed me to get rid of the trade-in I had, saying he would send a tow truck to cart it away if it would help me make a decision to buy that day. I don't know about here, but in Detroit, we love our cars, and they're like part of the family. We don't just throw them out with yesterday's trash.

So I went to GMBuyPower.com and found a dealership about an hour north of our home (Plattner's Arcadia Pontiac in Arcadia, FL) that would sell us a brand new Vibe at invoice price, no questions asked, and they had what we wanted in stock. (Funny, Chris claimed to have checked dealer stock for "several hundred miles radius" and found nothing!) So I called Chris back to politely say that we found a better deal elsewhere, and the man bit my head off. Told me sarcastically: "Fine, buddy, you want to do that, you go ahead. But you'll never match the kind of post-sale service we give you here at DeVoe." If your attitude is any indication of that service, Chris, then I want no part of your "post-sale service." Or were you referring to your service department, that seems more adept at breaking things than they are at fixing them?

I will now bring this long-winded tale to a close. Please, for the love of all that's good, don't buy a car or have one serviced at DeVoe Pontiac in Naples, FL. If you're looking for a great sales staff, try Plattner's in Arcadia. And if you need service...well, the closest I could get to that was McNamara Pontiac in Orlando, FL.

My Review of Devoe Pontiac-GMC Truck Inc:
Let's get something out of the way up front. I was born and raised in metro Detroit, so perhaps I have higher expectations of what good auto service is than most people. Still, none of that excuses DeVoe Pontiac from their inattentiveness, uncaring and unprofessional attitudes, and flat-out disregard for their customers.

I own a '98 Pontiac Trans Am WS6, which is currently covered by GM Major Guard extended warranty. But what good is a warranty if half the car's problems "can't be reproduced" by the service staff? And when problems actually do get fixed at DeVoe, 1 thing is guaranteed to happen: The item in question is likely to break over and over again, often in new and exciting ways you never thought possible.

I once needed a speaker in my driver's door replaced. DeVoe kept my car for an entire day before telling me what I already knew: "You need a new speaker". But they didn't have any in stock, so I had to come back later! Then, I was never called when the parts arrived. Had to call and chase the them around about it every few days. Then, when I went back to have the speaker installed, not only was the problem not corrected, but now my OTHER door's speaker was sounding fuzzy. Worse, my driver's side mirror had been damaged while the car was in the dealer's care!

For the past several months, I've been hearing all kinds of clunking coming from the rear differential -- it sounds like the posi clutches are failing. I've taken the car into DeVoe on three occasions and NOT ONCE was anyone there ever able to reproduce the problem. Each time I give them more specific instructions on how to reproduce the sounds I'm hearing, and they always claim that nothing's wrong. I can only conclude that they're all deaf, or they have never seen a Trans Am before.

So the last time I took the car in, I decided to test them. The readiness indicator on my TCS switch no longer lights up when the system is engaged, so I decided to report to my service advisor that there was a problem with it. When I picked the car up, guess what the paperwork showed? "Could not find any problem with the light." I got in the car and saw the light WAS STILL INOPERATIVE. Perhaps the staff at DeVoe are blind as well as deaf?

At the start of that visit, when I spoke to my advisor (the assistant service manager of the property, in fact), I started by saying that everything I wanted done should be covered by the extended warranty. But in case they weren't, I wanted to be notified AHEAD OF TIME of any cost. (I don't have bottomless pockets!) The advisor waved his arms around as I was speaking and said with exasperation, "Yeah, but what are we DOING?" What is this guy's problem?

So it should have come as no surprise that when two of the things I wanted done were not covered by the warranty, no one from DeVoe called to inform me of this, and I was billed $68!

Speaking of calls, don't expect anyone from DeVoe to call to say your car is done and that you can pick it up. By the time I found a chance to call and check up on DeVoe, my car was ready. Unfortunately, it was too late for me to get it, so I had to get up at 5:30 the next morning in order to get it before work. RAGE.

Bottom line: The absolutely appalling service and staff at DeVoe Pontiac have forced me to decide that I have purchased my last GM vehicle. And this is coming from a Detroit kid who's never owned anything but black Pontiacs. Thanks, guys. Thanks a whole lot.
