My Review of Feder's Subaru:
In December 2005 I went to Feder's Subaru in Middletown, NY because my calipers were frozen. My normal servicing dealer was over 50 miles away and for safety reasons I decided to take my 2001 Subaru Impreza RS 2.5 to the closest Subaru dealer. In addition a tow would have cost me $260 which would not have been reimbursed because it was not a warranty issue.
When I first called to make an appt. I spoke with the Service Manager and explained the problem. He informed me that the problem with my rear brakes is a result of the calipers not being lined when they were serviced. We also had this same conversation when I arrived to have the vehicle serviced.
The service manager replaced the rotors and brake pads and repinned the calipers. Total cost $508.
After giving this some thought I put together a letter to Subaru of America. I requested some type of reimbursement since I felt that if the rear brake service was done correctly this would not have happened.
On Thursday, 3/9/06, I spoke with the Subaru of America rep. She informed me that they were declining my claim because when she spoke to the Service Manager at Feder's he told her that the cause of the brake problem was misuse. I informed her that this was not what the Service manager explained to me when I made the appt. nor when I arrived at the dealer.
After getting off the phone I couldn't figure out what the "misuse" could have been. The only misuse that could have occurred is if I was stopping the car with the e-brake or road the brake pedal as I was driving.
I felt this was totally wrong of the dealer to lie about the cause of this issue. Better yet why did he lie?
I strongly recommend not getting your vehicle serviced at Feder's Subaru. I wouldn't want someone else to have this happen to them.
