My Review Of Ganley West Imports:
Nothing went right with this dealership. I agreed on a price and put down a credit card deposit over the phone since I live a few hours away. When I went to pick up the vehicle, they convinced me that they could give me a better interest rate than my bank financing, so I spent the extra 2 hours talking to their finance manager. The guy was pretty slick and convinced me to buy the gap coverage w/ some horror stories. After I got home, I thought better of it, and tried to call the guy back to cancel the gap insurance (he said I could cancel it anytime, and it'd be easy). Of course suddenly the guy is unreachable and never returns my calls. I call another finance manager at Ganley and they tell me that they've sent my paperwork off to the central office and can't get my GAP insurance information unless I come down and fill out a form. I ask if I can just call the gap insurance company directly and cancel through them. They tell me that THEY DON'T KNOW who my gap coverage is with and it'd take hours to find the paperwork!! They claimed to use several different companies, but they also wouldn't give me the list of supposed companies. So this is where I realize Ganley is either a bunch of crooks or just really incompetent, and it's hard to believe anyone can be that incompetent. At this point I book time off of work to go back down there and take care of it in person. Last minute before I start driving the 2 hours, I decide to try something different. I call a random finance guy, tell them that so-and-so finance manager was supposed to send me a copy of the GAP contract for my files, but I hadn't gotten them yet. They tell me that I should just call EasyCare gap directly and have them send the paperwork to me. Ha. So suddenly they know exactly who is doing my GAP? Anyways, I call EasyCare, the lady says I can cancel by faxing her a cancellation form, and I get a confirmation that it's been cancelled the next day.
Also, other items: Ganley did a poor job inspecting my vehicle. This was in the winter time, so I didn't think to roll down the windows. Of course there was an issue w/ the window that had to be warranty serviced. Same goes for various other components (fit and finish type things). This is my 2nd VW, and I'm willing to put up w/ a certain number of minor quality issues compared to other makes just because VW's are fun to drive and have relatively nice interiors, but these were things that should have been caught before the customer had a chance to notice them. Overall this experience has left me feeling less good about VW ownership, and I'll probably avoid them from now on.
