My Review of Hyundai of Nanuet:
I was shopping for cars for about a month and a half just recently. I went to a number of dealerships and being a young guy 23 i expected to be messed with or conned. At most of the dealerships I went to I went interested in a particular vehicle I knew was in my price range which was about 20,000 to as high as 25,000 maximum. About 2 weeks ago I was on my way back from test driving a mazda 3 over in elmsford westchester. I had some time so i thought I might look at another dealership, I was interested in Hyundai but hadn't really gotten my facts straight on what model I was interested. I found Hyundai in Nanuet and pulled in and began to work with a guy named Terrence. He seemed like an alright guy and told me he was new to the position. On his recommendation I test drove the hyundai sonata i liked it but i wasn't crazy about it. but there was a 3500 rebate on it because my mother owns a sante fe. I left the dealership and did some research about different hyundai models. I got interested in the Hyundai Azera GLS 2009 it was right at the limit of my price range so I knew I'd have to get a good price on it. I called Terrence to see if they had any in for me to test drive his first lie was saying yes. When I get there all the have is the Hyundai Azera Limited. The price says about 30,000 or more so I was hesitant to test drive it and asked if he had anything I hadn't seen I might be interested in. He basically said no besides the sonata. So I asked what is different. He told me the chrome trims and the leather seats and a few other luxury items. I asked about the engine he says it is the same. So we go for a test drive and I love the car its a V6 3.8 L 260HP and smooth. But I know it is out of my price range so i didn't get to excited. We go back into the dealership and sit down I tell him I am very interested in test driving a Azera GLS he asks what color I said black. He locates one in Paramus NJ. Now this is my first time buying a new car so from here I made a few mistakes but was really taken advantage of. He tells me they can ship it to Nanuet for me to test drive it but they need to know I'm serious. The price they give me is like 24,000 and change so i am ecstatic. I put 500 down on the car with a verbal agreement that if I test drive it and don't like it I get my 500 back. I give him my credit card, he comes back a few minutes later and says he made a mistake, the engine on the GLS is smaller the HP on the car drops from 260 to like 223. I forget what I asked him but every time I asked him a question he goes to talk to his manager for a few minutes comes back and the question never gets answered. Now the price on the GLS they gave me is still decent its a little under the MSRP I looked at online. So I sign the receipt and through a series of con artist type moves I walk out of there with 500 down on a car that I haven't seen, and the way it ended I needed to go to Paramus to test drive it. This was a Saturday i left there on saturday with my head spinning and the next day easter sunday i was just in a horrible mood I knew I'd been worked.
Now Monday the next group of bull. I went in there basically to get my money back I'm no longer interested in looking at the GLS. Terrence who was working that day must have ducked out the back. They tell me I have to speak to the finance guy Peter. I'm waiting for 10 minutes before some guy comes in and starts asking what I'm there for. I ask are you Peter he says no and he goes away. He comes back and asks me to explain the whole situation, I do, and he guaruntees my money back. I wait another 15 minutes. He starts telling me that the dealership is real sorry and wants to make it up to me. They want to offer me a Hyundai Azera 2009 Limited and he slips in the word Demo. I ask what Demo means and he says somebody from the dealership has been driving it to and from work. I ask how many miles are on it he says under 3,000. I look at the car and go straight to look at the mileage there is over 5,000 miles on the car. I tell them what i see and go back inside, I was there for about another 20 minutes with them coming up with new sales pitches for different cars before I finally got my refund receit and got out of there. It was a horrible experience for me, I'm glad I managed to get my money back from them. I would not recommend doing business with them and if there was anything I could do to keep them from doing that to somebody else I would like to know
