Reason for Visit: Sales
I recommend this dealer: No
My Review of IRA Nissan:
I've visited this dealership three times during the past month with the intention of purchasing a vehicle. During the first visit to collect information they gave me a ballpark price on a Murano and a quick estimate of what they thought my trade in would be worth. It was a little bit off what I would want, but I thought we could work it out.
I made an appointment for a second visit and faxed them the specs of the vehicle I was looking for and the sales guy said that we should be able to work things out no problem. However, when I arrived at the dealership, the pricing of the new car had crept up about $700 and the trade in had dropped about $500. We negotiated, they brought in the "intimidating" closer to brow beat me a bit, but I declined their offer.
The Sales guy called back a few times, but I declined to continue the negotiations. A few weeks later he called me again to ask about the price I was looking for on my trade in (about $1000 more than they offered) and he told me to come back down and he was sure that we could work it out. I realize that going down a third time was my mistake, but I was really surprised when they increased the price of the new car a further $1000 and decreased the trade in another $1500. After playing games with them where they claimed it was a better deal, they switched strategy to offering to come a little closer to the original offer. Needless to say, I politely shook the salesman's hand and left the dealership.
I have rarely been so annoyed. This was a gratuitous waste of my time. I couldn't believe that they would tell me on the phone that they would improve their deal just to get me down there and offer one that was far worse. Their smiles and jokes to themselves as I left the dealership indicated that they didn't see it as a waste of time though.
The difficulty may have been that I was dealing with a new salesman and the managers were trying to teach him a lesson in bargaining toughness at my expense. So perhaps they weren't serious about me as a customer in the first place. The problem may also have been that I had fully researched the price of their cars, their inventory and the value of my trade in before I went down there in the first place and they don't like informed customers. Or it could just be that Sales manager likes to run an old style dealership where they try to take advantage of the customer at every turn and figure that they'll lose a lot of customers but get enough people that just don't know better.
