My Review of Keith Hawthorne Hyundai of Charlotte:
I ama Soutn Carolina resident, on 3/21/08 I purchaased a vehicle from this dealership and was told that the doc. fee they charged ($489.50) covers all administrative work to transfer ownership of a vehicle to me. Specifically, all the title work and filing of DMV paperwork is covered by this fee. I subsequently learned from the South Carolina DMV office that I was overchared sales tax, title, and tag fees, by the dealership and the only way I could get a refund was for the dealer to send me a copy of the checks the delaership paid on my belalf. I would then have to pursue a refund with the SC DMV.
I contacted the dealership and requested a copy of the check from Anthony, who completed my original paperwork, and also told him that the incorrect address was used on my paperwork. After a few days of repeated calling, Christian told me she was mailing me all the original paperwork; title, bill of sale, SC form 400, etc, and a refund of my sales tax, tag, and title fees paid, and that I would have to file all these forms myself at the SC DMV to get me vehicle registered. I received all this paperwork on 4/2.
After registering my vehicle, I contacted the dealership on 4/7 to inquire about a partial refund of the dec. fee, since I did a portion of the work I paid the delaer to do.
My initial contact was Christian who told me she would discuss the issue with the general manager Mark Ficken and would get back with me. After 3 days of no response, I contacted Mark directly.
I asked if he could give me a breakdown of what services are covered by the doc. fee. He repeated what I had been told previously, that the doc. fee covers all the administrative work necessary to transfer ownership of a vehicle to the buyer, but could not give a specific breakdown. He further stated that the doc. fees are non-refundable eventhough I had filed all the documents with the SC DMV
