My Review of Kirkwood Mitsubishi:
The car was purchased new from Kirkwood Mitsubishi. We also purchased the Premium Extended Warranty for $1700.00.

The Clutch started to slip at 5000 Miles we replaced clutch at our expense. We selected an after market clutch

EVO VIII Turbo Failed. The car was towed to the dealer. 35,000 Miles.
Dealer repaired Turbo Charger Under Warranty Dealer did not indicate there were any other issues with Vehicle. The Dealer test drove the car and had no problems prior to delivery of the car.

ENGINE FAILURE. The car was towed to the Dealer. Still under Manufacturer Warranty. This was 39 miles after we picked up the car for the Turbo repair

Dealer looked at engine. The dealer wanted us to pay for the cost to investigate the problem. We refused and indicted that there had been no problems wit the car prior to the Turbo Replacement. The dealer had Mitsubishi look at the car also. Finally the dealer agreed to open and investigate the engine. The failure was on bearing # 1 which is closest to the oil pump. This bearing always gets oil even if the engine is low on oil. The dealer agreed to put a short block into the car at their expense. The manufacturer and dealer were honoring their warranty.

Transmission Problems
It must be noted that the dealer drove the car when the Turbo failed. The dealer drove the car after the turbo was replaced, and drove the car when the engine had failed prior to repairing the engine. The dealer did not indicate that the clutch or transmission had any problems. The car could shift into first and reverse gear with no problems.

After the engine was repaired the dealer called us to indicate that the clutch had thinned down and had some wear on it. We indicated to the dealer that the clutch was a twin plate clutch. Each plate always looks thinner than the single plate clutches that are from the factory. We informed the dealer that we were not interested in putting a factory clutch since it only lasts 5000 miles and are known to have problems. We asked the dealer to install the twin plate clutch. The dealer agreed. It is important to note that after inspecting the clutch the dealer had not seen any cracks or problems with the clutch.
Once the clutch was assembled the dealer could not deliver the car because it would not shift into 1st or reverse. The dealer informed us that they would adjust the clutch and replace the hydraulic assist cylinder and give us the car. The dealer could not get the clutch and transmission to work. We gave the dealer the name of Reid Vann the auto shop that had replaced the clutch. We also gave the dealer the name of 3 EVO VIII specialists and the name of the clutch manufacturer. When we talked to all the different mechanics we were told that this problem would occur if the clutch was not marked and reinstalled in the same exact fashion as it was removed. The dealer indicated that they would have to remove the transmission and check the clutch alignment. After the clutch was removed the dealer called us and said that the clutch was cracked in 3 places. We asked the dealer why they did not notice the cracks when they inspected the clutch prior to reinstalling it. The manufacturer of the clutch indicated that putting the clutch in with it offset from its previous alignment could cause the cracking of the plates.
To replace the twin plate clutch would cost the dealer $1600.00. So as to get the car back we informed the dealer that we would accept a factory clutch. The dealer indicated that we must pay for the clutch and its installation. We refused to authorize payment for a new clutch since we had nor problems with the car when we took it in.

My Review of Kirkwood Mitsubishi:
This dealership sold me a car in 6/2000 (1999 Eclipse with 13,246 miles) that was supposed to have an extended warrenty until 6/2005 or 73,246 miles. At 60,000 I found that the underwritten warrenty company they go through said the warrenty was up, and that it had been amended. Kirkwood Mitsubishi wont even call me back or honor the warrenty now even though they sold me it. The GM is dodging all my calls and said he would call me back over a week ago. After 7-10 voices mails, I am still waiting.

Jon Todaro
