My Review of M and F Auto Sales:
This dealership posted a hard-to-find automobile on the internet, at more than $1000 above high blue book. Based on photographs and a lengthy, item-by-item verbal report of excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition from two different employees, I flew from Salt Lake City to Albuquerque to purchase the vehicle. Here's what I found:
1. One-foot square dent in right rear quarter panel, not visible in photos.
2. Right front tire with severely uneven wear. It had almost full tread depth on the inside aspect, but was nearly bald on the outside edge.
3. Engine leaking oil.
4. Electrical problems including non-functional front turn-signals and dashboard warning lights.
5. Very loud lifter noise.
6. Idled under 500 rpm and stalled frequently at idle.
7. Extremely poor alignment with loose and unstable steering. This was very frightening at highway speeds, when a slight left or right turn of the steering wheel resulting in violent swerving that was difficult to correct.
8. Entire car shook at speeds over 55 mph.
There were other things wrong, but these were the ones I specifically asked about on the phone. Since I asked specifically about all these items and was told they were fine, these were not oversights; they were egregious misrepresentations. Not only was this car a mess, but it had serious safety concerns due to a likely worn-out steering box and/or ball joints. Additionally it would not have passed emissions or safety inspection due to the electrical problems mentioned above. Strangely, their mechanic drove it after my test drive and insisted with a straight face that there was nothing wrong.
I'm sorry I didn't listen to other reviewers on this forum before wasting money on airfare, but at least I knew enough not to purchase the car. I hope the person who does buy it doesn't lose his or her life in it.
