Reason for Visit: Sales
I recommend this dealer: No
My Review of Marina del Rey Toyota:
Avoid at all costs.
The sales dept looks more like the back office of a typical service area. It's filthy, small, and uninviting. The desk drawers were broken and held together by rope. (I'm serious) I almost laughed when the salesman started making calculations by pen and paper-- that's right folks, no fancy computers at this dealership.
Cosmetic issues aside, the people who work here are terrible. The salesman I spoke with (Ryan) wasn't particularly offensive, but he constantly badgered me to purchase a car that I did not want. Very high pressure, very hardsell. He also used every car salesman cliche in the book. ("I want to save YOU money! We have to act on this NOW! Let's get you in this car TODAY!") The pricing was also laughable. Still, he wasn't a bad guy. Just not very good.
His bosses were another story entirely. One guy (Eric) just gave me an unfriendly stare, no hello, no nothing. Not even a smile. The manager (Brian) actually greeted me, but oozed that slimy car salesman vibe. ("Let's make a deal, show us good faith, we know how to help you," etc.) His empty promises aside, it was obvious that they couldn't care less about my interests. They just wanted the money. Overall, they were extremely unhelpful, bordering on contemptuous. The last thing I expect from a salesman is attitude. Maybe at BMW of beverly hills, but at toyota?
All in all, this was honestly the worst car dealership that I've ever been to. I was not even remotely comfortable about making such a large purchase with these people. If you're looking for a toyota dealership in the LA area, try santa monica or north hollywood. I found them to be FAR more helpful, with much less BS. The fact that their offices don't resemble a dump is a plus as well.
