My Review Of Ray Skillman Hoosier Ford:

I met with Chuck and was looking to buy a used car. He helped me with test driving the one I had been looking at. It was late in the evening and close to closing time but that didn't seem to matter to him. Due to it being late I wasn't able to get an immediate approval for finance because the lenders were no longer open. I talked briefly with Brad and he suggested I try for a new 2013 Ford Focus instead of the 2010 Ford Focus I had test driven. I agreed to apply for the financing for a new one and made plans to come back the following day. I received a call the next day from Chuck telling me they had a car ready for me...the 2013 Ford Focus. I couldn't believe it!! My credit isn't horrible but it isn't the greatest because of mistakes I made when I was younger. I arrived back at the dealership and met with Chuck. I was informed that I would have to put $500 down, something I wasn't expecting and did not have access to at the time. Chuck went and informed Brad. A few minutes later Brad came back and said let's sign some papers. No money down!! I couldn't believe it!!! After going into Brad's office and signing a multitude of paperwork I was being put in a brand new car!! My very first brand new car!!! It's been 3 days and I still can't believe I am the proud new owner of a 2013 Ford Focus!! So happy I chose to go to Ray Skillman Ford in Martinsville!!

My Review Of Ray Skillman Hoosier Ford:

On Saturday February 23, 2013 my wife and I passed the dealership on the way to Indianapolis to shop for a new vehicle. We stopped in at the dealership in Martinsville. When we walked in we were greeted by a sales associate, I neglected to get his name. He was very helpful; he talked us through the process of trying to purchase a car through the facility and then told us that the first step would be to fill out a credit application. Once we filled out the application he informed us that since our credit was less than what he could work with for a regular purchase we would have to do a buy here pay here option. He told us then that he would then have us meet with Jim Everett Jr. We were then walked back into his office and we sat down. Jim explained to us that we would be interviewed by him and then he would decide based on the interview wither we would get a car loan or not. The interview began with him asking us about our finances and then he asked us to list all of our bills. He then spent about ten minutes filling out a worksheet. After he was done he said that he wanted to explain what he was doing, which was creating a monthly budget for me and my wife. This included what bills I would pay out of my check and what bills she would pay for. Then he told us exactly what amount we should place in our savings account, money he said we would not be able to touch, this would be he said for a rainy day. At this point my wife and I were wondering what this had to do with a credit application. He then brought up our credit reports. We were shown what our credit scores were and we signed a paper showing what our scores were. Jim then turned the computer screen around and said that he would like to show me what was on my credit report. He pointed out everything on my report and then started asking me about every line on the report. He asked me about some of the collections I had on my report stating that there was no reason for me not to have paid some of these off. He then proceed to tell me about another of my debts saying that I needed to explain to him why I have this debt on my account he then leaned back in his chair and placed his hands on the back of his head and waited for an answer. At this point I had reached the limit to what I could take. I told him that we were not there for me to discuss my credit report line by line, that if he would like to help he could or couldn't but I was done with the interrogation. He then told us that part of the process was for him to find out what kind of man I was and to see if I would look him in the eye or not. He then told us that he was going to give us the loan but that he had changed his mind. With that he stood up signaling that the interview was over he stuck out his hand telling us that it was nice meeting us. My wife and I left numb. This was the most humiliating experience I have ever been through. We were lectured about how we spend the money we earned by a total stranger, and then made to account why our credit score was the way it was. Never once during this process were we asked what money we had in our bank account or the amount of a down payment we could come up with, it was just assumed that we were poor and we were treated as such.

My Review Of Ray Skillman Hoosier Ford:

David Wilson sold us our new Ford. He, David Clifford, and Ernie Grant were patient and professional with us. These guys did not push us or prod us. But, gave us as much time as needed to make a smart choice. David Wilson and David Clifford worked hard for us and are just "all around nice guys!" We are well satified with thier presentation and hard work in our behalf. We are happy with our new Ford!

My Review Of Ray Skillman Hoosier Ford:

My wife and I traveled over 4 hours one way and was well worth it. The team insured our complete satisfaction and will most likely travel to Ray Skillman when we're ready to trade again. Thanks especially to Scott Clegg and all the folks that made our purchase a memorable one. Thanks again to the Ray Skillman team.

My Review Of Ray Skillman Hoosier Ford:

This was really a tale of two experiences.

First the sales experience: Our salesperson was Patrick, and he did a phenomenal job. He placed us in a car (Kia Soul) that we had not considered, but that I absolutely love. He was very attentive to our pricing, style/space, and color wishes. Overall best experience I have had looking for, or purchasing, a vehicle. I wouldn't hesistate to send someone else to him to purchase a vehicle. My only concern is the relatively small selection of vehicles "on lot", but they do have access to Ray Skillman's entire inventory. In fact, they ended up driving our car down from the westside.

Second the financing experince: If Patrick had not done such a great job, I would have left the dealership without purchasing based upon how negative this experience was. Ernie was patronizing and borderline derogatory. He made several comment along the lines of "we men would never do , but you know how women are". He also wore a jacket with a political statement on it, which I find to be in poor taste in a sales position.

In several comments I felt he outright lied to us regarding profit on the car sales, etc. I realize that some of this is part of negotiation, but stating that you believe the dealer is making less than $300 on a used car sale is ridiculous. He also was very heavy handed regarding the after market warranty.

So, really a hard thing to evaluate, Patrick would get all 5's, Ernie, all 1's. I went on the high side based on the experience with Patrick -- but as I said, they still came close to losing the sale. Again, not based on price, features, or the actual vehicle -- simply on how Ernie conducted himself during the financing process.
