My Review of Showcase Mazda:
My new Miata, suddenly and without warning, shut down in the middle of a busy road (Scottsdale road) at 7:00 in the evening on Saturday night. The engine light came on and 30 seconds later the car completely died in heavy traffic. It had oil pressure and there was no other warning. Realizing the engine had shut down and still coasting (though steering was now difficult) I was still able to turn the wheel. I somehow had the presence of mind to steer the car into the center lane and into a parking lot. The car had full electrical but would not restart. There was not even a responsive click when I turned the key to try to restart it. At the time of this incident, the car had 3,000 miles on it and was exactly one month old. I called the dealership and they told me to call the Mazda emergency number which I did (I subsequently found out I was not dealing with Mazda at all but with AAA). I then called the dealership back and told them I was stranded and asked how I was to get a car. I was told that even though the car was under full warranty, the service department was supposed to set that up. Since the service deparment was closed they could not supply me with a loaner vehicle since the service department arranged those transactions. I pointed out to the Showcase Mazda employee I spoke with, that since this was Saturday night and the Showcase service department would not be open until Monday that I would need a car over the weekend and to get to work on Monday morning. I was then told they were not under any obligation to supply me with a loaner car. Further I was told that they were not obligated as per the contract to supply me with a loaner car. As far as I'm concerned when you pay as much for a car as I did and your vehicle is virtually new and only 1 month old the dealer should have the integrity to stand behind their product. In addition, I'm completely shaken! What if the car shuts down in the middle of the freeway in heavy traffic? How can I trust this car? Would I buy another car from Showcase Mazda - I think under the circumstances, I'd need my head examined. The definitive answer would be absolutely not!!
