My Review of Suntrup West County BMW:
I went to West County BMW (AKA Suntrup BMW) to pick up some oil and a universal transmitter for my E46 M3. As I was checking out, I gave the cashier a $200 voucher I got from my BMW credit card purchases.

The cashier then disappeared into a nearby office with the voucher. After a long wait, I walk over to the office

I walk in and it's instant trouble. There's a large manstanding there and he hands me back my voucher saying he doen't know what it is and he's not going to honor it. I explain that I got the voucher from using my BMW card and had to have it FedExed because of its value and that its supposed to be good for BMW related purchases. The man says its not valid because the dealership isn’t with BMW.

I’m a bit taken aback, firstly by his disassociation with BMW (a BMW dealer that claims not to represent BMW?). And secondly by his dismissive attitude, he wasn’t going to lift a finger to help me figure this out.

He asks me if I even bought a car form West County (as in “I'm not even going to waste my time with you if you didn’t). I tell him I’ve purchased two M3s from them.

He looks me up and asks if I’ve had “reoccurring problems”. I tell him I just had my car in because the SMG lever rocks and makes noise ever since they "fixed" a hydraulic actuator. (After a day of service, they refused to fix the rocking, saying that it was normal).

Then he says “Oh, you’re the one” and starts going off on me saying that the SMG is within factory spec. As we talk, he begins looking squinty like he means to do harm.

I tell him that when I get something repaired I expect it to be fixed like new (it is a new $55,000 car after all), but I’m not there to discuss the repair, I really just want to buy some oil. He goes on to say “we fix’em the BMW wants us to” (Hmmm, I thought they weren’t with BMW?).

This goes on for a bit until I sense thing are really out of control and suggest we start over. He says he doesn’t like my attitude and tells me that I need to leave. I point out that I hadn’t raised my voice, used inappropriate language or insulted him in any way and that all I was looking for was some oil and some help figuring out what to do with this voucher. Then he raises up from his desk like he’s going to throw me out.

Here’s the really shocking part: When I ask him for his card or name he refuses to tell me, so I look down on his desk and see a stapler with DON SUN scratched into it. I ask him “so your name is Don Sun?” He then tells me his name.

This pathetic textbook example of how not to treat a customer isn’t just some hostile schlub service guy. He’s none other than Don Suntrup, part of the family that runs the West County Dealership along with a number of other auto dealerships.

I still can’t believe it, how do people get away with this type of behavior in a service industry?

Here’s the thing, I want to like West County BMW, I like some of the service writers, they’re a supporter of the CCA, and the driver’s schools. In fact their dealership is out of my way.

But needless to say, I won't be back. I just hope the other local dealers are better then West County.
