My Review of Toyota of Watertown:
I know next to nothing about cars, so I was apprehensive about bringing my 2000 Camry into a dealership. I received the car as a gift in January, 2008, when its former owner, a relative, bought a new Corolla. As of June, 2009, I had done nothing to the car but drive it and keep the gas in the tank.
The service advisor, Ashok Vaswani, made me feel at ease as soon as I began to speak to him. He was friendly and patient with me as he explained what tests needed to be done. He and the other service staff changed the oil, rotated the tires, and did other "routine" maintenance work.
It turns out my exhaust pipe was cracked; I thought replacing it would cost me an arm and a leg. But Mr. Vaswani checked and double checked some paperwork and made sure I wasn't charged because it was covered by the warantee (just barely!).
People told me squeaking brakes are not an issue with cars, especially with ones as old as mine. But when I told Mr. Aswani my breaks squeak sometimes, he took my concerns seriously and had the rear brakes cleaned and adjusted.
I think most people dread bringing their cars into dealerships for repairs almost as much as dislike going to dental appointments. I know I did. But the experience wasn't bad, not bad at all! It didn't take as long as I thought (I thought I'd be there all day), and the cost was much lower than I expected as well. When I drove my Camry back home, it ran as if it were brand new -- and I didn't hear any brake-squeaking!
The best part of the day, though, was how the great service. Mr. Aswani wasn't the least bit condescending when he explained things to me; his demeanor was admirably professional. He didn't take advantage of my ignorance of all things automotive. He and the other service staff did a thorough job of checking my car and working to maintain its performance. But they didn't try to talk me into tests that weren't necessary or overcharge me. In fact, they saved me hundreds(?) of dollars by looking into the warantee. I would have paid for the exhaust pipe in a heartbeat if they'd asked me to, and they probably sensed that. But they were honest and proved themselves worthy of my trust.
If all the Toyota owners in Boston and its suburbs knew how friendly and helpful the service staff members are and what a great job they do, all the people who drive Toyota cars, trucks, minivans, hybrids, or SUVs would bring them to Toyota of Watertown whenever the vehicles needed maintenance or repairs. (Or, at least, the smart ones would.)
