My Review of Warnock Nissan:
The story goes back to year 2001. I owned then my relatively new 2000 Nissan Maxima. As a car enthusiast I decided that I was going to try out the K&N air filter to possibly gain few extra horses the cheap way - $35 cheap that is. So I bought the filter, installed it and drove around with it for something like a tank and a half of gas (about 600 miles). Back than I was working in Morristown NJ and commuting back and forth from Queens NY on daily basis. By the 2nd half of the 2nd tank of gas since the start of using the K&N filter, I've got the check engine light turning on in my dashboard. I drove with it for maybe another thank of gas to see if it goes off by itself and then I decided to check it out, but where to go? ...since I was working in Morristown I checked the dealerships in the area and found Warnock. Made an appointment and I arranged to be picked by a coworker so that I could leave the car in the service department for the day. Got a call midday that the car was ready, went to pick it up at 5PM after work hours and upon meeting with the guy that took care of the whole thing, I've been told that the high flow air filter I was using, was allowing too much air into the engine, that is more air than the ECU (the car's computer) could manage. In another words the mapping of this ECU could NOT properly handle the amount of air that was sucked into the engine with this new filter, and therefore could not regulate the proper amount of gasoline that was needed to achieve the desired ratio of air fuel, and therefore my air fuel mixture was a little on the "lean side" which meant also that the engine was running a little hotter than it should and if I was to ignore the check engine light I could have possibly caused some damage to the intake valves in the long run as well. Bottom line, all was needed was to take the new filter out and put in the manufacturer's recommended filter which amounted to a total of $15 expense and they did NOT even want to charge me for putting it back in.
Now, they could have easily said to me something like the oxigen sensor was defective and they had to replace it... indeed, it would have been under the warranty and I wouldn't have had to pay; they'd have made the $-s (something like $80-100 easy), they could have come up with another concocted, bogus story that would have made some sense... though I know about engines a little bit, I wouldn't have known as much as to tell when an expert mechanic coming up with a plausible story lies... But they didn't and that's the point! They told me the truth and charged me nothing more than the price of the air filter... which is very rare indeed, among mechanics. I left another $15 tip and was thrilled to not have paid something like $150 for a diagnostics, parts and labor for some kind of made up story that could have possibly gone around the warranty as well. I surely hope that they're just as good today as they were back then! I'd definitely continue to do business with them but they're out of the way as my contract in Morristown ended long time ago and I don't live there. Check them out though! Wouldn't know about their sales department but I was impressed with their service guys!!
