My Review of West Ashley Toyota Scion:
I had always been told that the Sales Dept. was high pressure and more expensive so I special ordered my 2000 Tundra in Dec. 1999 from a dealer in Myrtle Beach (Sparks Toyota, all on line great experiance). I've had ALL my recommended service done at West Ashley (and have the paper work to prove it) and without fail I had to return for an UNRELATED problem. (Coincidence maybe but it's realy stretching the boundaries of coincidence) I had parts removed and left on top of the engine, which I discovered several weeks later that could have fallen into the fan, I reported that and was told "I was lucky".
Parts were damaged as a result of service perfomed, which were later repaired and or replaced but not without disagreement and being told "that tech. no longer works here" and made to feel that I was taking advantage of THEM!
Im now in need of a 60,000 mile PM but refuse to return to West Ashley Service Dept. and unfortunately I now have to buy a Haynes Manuel and become knowledgable on performing preventive maintenance procedures to my truck.
Does anyone recommend an honest Toyota Service Dept. in Charleston SC

Hello, again. I responded to your report on a different website, and will copy it here. Please call me at your convenience to review your situation. We do not want anyone feeling that we consider them less than our top priority. From the other site:
Disappointed with Service, My name is Ann and I am the Customer Relations Manager here at West Ashley Toyota. I would like to talk to you about your experience in our service department. Please call me at the dealership at 843.556.9110. You don't give any details that would help me find a way to help you out here, or look up your history. I'd like the opportunity to earn your business back. Please give me a call.

Hello!

Please understand that the anonymity of the internet and this forum doesn't provide the basic information I needed to look into your history. I did speak with your wife yesterday and had a good conversation, I think, with her. I am looking into your history, and I do see that you've had some difficulty over the years a while ago with us, for which I apologize. It is never our intention to give someone bad service. However, I cannot go back and change the past, as much as I would love to. As I told your wife yesterday, I would like to earn your business back with your 60K service, and will do all I can to ensure the service is completed to your satisfaction. The decision is ultimately yours. I will be calling you later to further discuss this.

My Review of West Ashley Toyota Scion:
I went there to look but it didn't take me long to realize that this wasn't a place that I was going to buy a car. The salesperson was pushy and the entire operation was disorganized. I am glad I went with my initial impression and moved on to another local dealer where I bought my new car. There are better options in the Charleston area. This dealership is subpar.

Jacob,
First, I want to thank you for your input. I'm the Customer Relations Manager at the dealership, and we need input from everyone, good or bad, in order to improve and be on top of our game. You don't state when you were at the dealership, so I can't answer to the disorganization you mention. I would be interested in knowing more about your visit, so we can improve customer experience. Please call the dealership and ask for the Customer Relations Manager.

I'm sorry we lost your business to a competitor. I would ask that 1) you call me so we can talk about your experience, and 2) that on your next need for a vehicle you give us a second chance.

All the best!

My Review of West Ashley Toyota Scion:
I was shopping for a car for several weeks and getting quite frustrated by the salespeople I met and the prices that I was receiving. I wanted a Honda or Toyota, and it did not take me long to want to get out of the first Toyota dealership I went to here in Charleston. I did not like the salesperson or the managers who put pressure on me, and certainly did not like their prices. I felt they were condescending to me as I was a woman.
Then a coworker of mine suggested that I go to West Ashley Toyota where they bought their car. They said the received a good deal on a car and and they have had excellent service experiences since then. I went there and the salesperson named Will was very nice to deal with, put me at ease and did not put any pressure on me. He was very professional, showed me the models I was interested in, and took me on test drives in several of them. Then when I found the one I liked best he went to management and gave me a price on that car that was quite a bit lower that the other local Toyota dealership I went to.
They got me an interest rate lower than I expected for the financing and I drove home with my new Prius which I just love! When I was originally checking them out on line I saw several of the other articles at this site and realized they were not customers but seemed to be just a cleaning crew who had sour grapes for being fired, and the next post looked like a friend of theirs that they set up to write that article. So I wanted to write about my excellent experience there. I can highly recommend them.

I am the Customer Relations Manager at West Ashley Toyota, and I just wanted to say: Thank you so much for your kind words! I have passed them on to Will, who also greatly appreciated them. The bad reviews keep us on our toes and make us work harder to provide our customers with a Toyota Experience. The kind words and good reviews lets us know that our efforts aren't in vain. Please remember us in the future for your service needs; we look forward to serving you.

My Review of West Ashley Toyota Scion:
We where the cleaner of this dealership and i just wanted to reply to the person who had compassion and repoted how the manager spoke to us. There is always two side to a story and honestly I am a college student who goes to school in the day and works hard at night, along with three other people. We clean about 6 other building a night include BMW, Live5 New just to name some of the biggest place we clean but by far the most dirtest place we ever had to clean was this place. Our biggest job took us 2 hours tops this place can take up to 3. We could get there at closing time and people and theyer would just be stand around watch tv while we woul be trying to clean and dirty the place right back up. ON adailay basis one of the men who worked there would go in the bathroom with a news paper an food and eat while reaing a newspaper an leave it all over the floor. At first I was think it may just be a customer that made the mess until it started happening everyday. Our supplys that we pay for would be used and take out of the closet. So there would be time when we got to work and we would have no clothes or the mop that we use for the main floor would be all the way in the back and be used to pick up the grease from cars. We complained and asked several time not to used our stuff, unfortuintly it had to come to the fact of the manger lying and saying that we moved desk and said she no loger wanted our services. All of this happen not soon after she gave us an evluation says that we were doing a good job. I could go on and on and on. What was done was horriable but in the industry this is sometime what you have to deal with . People assume that you are there pesronal maid and not a commercial cleaner. Not sure honeslty how there service is but i know for such that they treated us like we were the trash. I have told evey one i know to say away from that place, I even made and annocmennt at my church explaingin how we were treated. In time like this you can just treat people wrong like they did. Go to the Toyota on Rivers.....

Employee(s) Dealt With: Pedro in Parts and the Manager (Tom?) and the receptionist

My Review of West Ashley Toyota Scion:
I have never been treated as well at a dealership. Pedro in Parts was unbelievable. My son had lost his keys to his truck -- I was paniced since we had only one set and had had the used truck only a short time. I was an hour away from the dealership and my son was another hour away stuck in a remote area. It was near closing time, but Pedro helped me with everything without a hurried attitude. He calmed me down.... didn't charge me anything and was just wonderful about the whole thing, even though I called him at least three times within an hour. Thanks to Pedro, we will always drive a Toyota. We didn't even buy the truck from West Ashley Toyota, but they still treated us like THEIR CUSTOMER. Amazing in this day and age. Service still exists there and we will do business there in the future.

My husband was out of town and without these people today, I would have been up the creek. It was a simple problem, but they treated me like I was the most important customer they had all day, and they didn't make a dime doing it.

My Review of West Ashley Toyota Scion:
I took my car to be serviced there and realized how they treated the cleaning crew. I personally know someone who does cleaning for a living and understand how hard it is of a job. But the manager who goes by alicia made them go and clean the bathrooms which were left very clean soon after a couple of people and sales people went in dirty it up and she accused them of not even cleaning it. To go with this disrespect when i took my car to get repaired for an oil leak they told me that my transmission what blow out and i know it was not cause i would have not been able to drive there. I ended up taking somewhere else and come to find out they just wanted me to pay for a whole new transmission. I would not recomend any one to buy or even inquire about a vehicle there.

Hello, Hardworker.

I am the Customer Relations Manager for West Ashley Toyota. I can tell you without a doubt the manager you saw takes great pains to treat our customers and our employees with dignity and respect. At the same time, employees, from the General Manager down to the porters, are expected to do their jobs and do them well.

There is an old saying that perception is reality. The appearance that the bathrooms had not been cleaned was the issue, and has been an ongoing issue at the dealership. It was an issue that needed to be addressed and corrected. So, what seemed like disrespect from your end was a manager's responsibility to make sure that work is done, and is done properly.

In regards to your vehicle, did you take get your second opinion from a Certified Toyota Technician? Our Technicians are manufacturer trained with the latest Toyota diagnostic tools. Our Master Tech would not have recommended you replace your transmission if it did not need it.

I truly am sorry that you did not have a Toyota experience when you were here, and I hope you would give us a second chance. I wish you all the best in the future.

Employee(s) Dealt With: Can't recall

My Review of West Ashley Toyota Scion:
I just became aware of this site to rate dealers so my info is dated but apparently remains valid based on the other reviews. My experience with this dealership occurred in April 2004 and left such a negative impression that even to this day I attempt to tell anybody who is interested in obtaining a Toyota to avoid this dealer. In 04 I went to this dealer to attempt to purchase a new Tundra. One salesman began to assist me on the lot then abruptly said he had to attend to a to another client he saw arrive. My wife and I then went into the sales area to locate another salesman for assistance. Our new salesman took us to his cubicle to begin discussions. I had performed extensive research on this model and had specific options that I wanted along with dealer cost for each option and the base vehicle. As soon as I began to present my data the salesman attitude changed from a somewhat friendly to unfriendly. He attempted to tell me my "numbers" were inaccurate and excused himself. We sat there for another five to ten minutes before getting up and leaving. I found the treatment at this dealership very unprofessional and extremely rude. It was as if we were there to wait on them rather than them wait on us. Not only did they loose the opportunity to sell me this Tundra, they also lost the opportunity to sell me our 2006 Prius and my son's 2008 Yaris not to mention any future service associated with these vehicles.

Sir, please allow me, as the Customer Relations Manager for West Ashley Toyota, to apologize for your experience. We have a new management team that is constantly working to improve, and the team that was in place when you were here in 2004 is no longer here. The experience you describe is not what we countenance.

We are looking to always improve, and need to have input in order to do that. I do hope that in the future you give our new management team a chance.

Our Customer Satisfaction rates are high; but every now and then, the process doesn't work like it should and we disappoint a customer. We don't want to do that a second time.

Again, I apologize for your experience, and ask that you give us a try for your future automotive needs.

My Review of West Ashley Toyota Scion:
Our experience was quite negative when we bought a 2009 Prius and were able to pay cash. They knew we proposed to trade in our 2003 Prius but gave an insultingly low offer for a car with less than 35,000 miles. If they do not want trade-ins they should say so up front. There was plenty of opportunity to do this as we ordered the car ahead. As it was we wasted a lot of time on ultimately frustrating negotiations. On top of that the staff had little understanding of what it means for a diabetic (my husband) to miss lunch but this did not speed anything up even though we told two of them that he needed to eat. The person who worked with us could not even do a good job of demonstrating setting a radio station on the new car. On top of this they have a hard sell of extended warranties by a separate business staffer. All in all it took nearly 3 hours and was very stressful to us older people. We left unhappy with the dealer but happy with our new car.

As Customer Relations Manager for West Ashley Toyota, I'm glad you posted this review. We are constantly looking to improve our performance and we cannot do that without feedback. I do apologize for the experience you had when you purchased your car. The service you experienced is not what is normal for our store and is not what we expect a customer to have. We have addressed the areas you mentioned in your review.

You and I have spoken on the phone, and we have addressed your issue with the extended warranty.

I do hope you will continue to use our service drive to care for your Prius.

Again I apologize for your experience and hope you give us a second chance.

Employee(s) Dealt With: Tyrone McDonals, Finance guy

My Review of West Ashley Toyota Scion:
My wife wanted a Camry. My income and credit report is very good. My bank will give me 6% on an auto loan. I mentioned this upfront.

Next came the negotiation. Keys were taken for trade in information; we were left in the waiting room, ill equipped for families with children.
Long story short. Lots of waiting, good-cop/bad-cop routines. Lots of "I don't knows", "the finance people handle that", and more waiting.

When I asked how long it was going to take, I had smoke blown up my butt.

Our salesman stalled some more, and wasn't really doing anything but
making us wait and gauging us from time to time, probably hoping we'd become irritated enough to trade our cow for a handful of beans.

It began to look ridiculous, and I noticed that most folks that were there when we came in had left.

We had our 2 year old and 4 year old with us, and since they missed lunch, I offered to come back after dinner and see what they could come up with. I was told that they would be only a few more minutes.

About 40 minutes later, as I was walking out, since the salesman grew amnesia and forgot where he put our keys, we pulled out our spare keys and decided to leave.

Magically, the keys reappeared and the finance guy was ready for us.
Finance boy gave an unconvincing show by pretended to be working up figures on his computer, and then handing over figures from a stack of generic forms on his desk.

At this point, we were out of there. Still, no keys in hand, we got into our cars to leave when Some incredibly understanding guy came out to play the other good cop, (or was it gooder cop?).

Anyway, long story short, the ball is in your court Honda...

ybanks,
I am the Customer Relations Manager at West Ashley Toyota and I want to thank you for your response. We are constantly looking for areas to improve our service and our processes, but we cannot do that without customer feedback. Our customer satisfaction scores are among the best and we please 99.9% of our customers the first time they come in the door.

However, every now and then, we let someone down. It isn't our intention to do this and work hard to make sure our customers are happy. From reading your review, it looks like you were one of the small percentage of people we did let down. I apologize on behalf of West Ashley Toyota for your experience. What you describe is not how we expect our customers to be treated.

I also ask that you give Bob Benson, our General Sales Manager, a call. Bob wants to be sure we've done everything we can to make you happy.

Best Regards,
