BMW has won July's sales round pitted against its fellow German manufacturers Mercedes and Audi. Posting an impressive 21% sales increase from July of 2006.
BMW, Mercedes & Audi July Sales Report
The BMW Group in the US (BMW and MINI combined) reports strong July sales of 28,364 vehicles, an increase of 20.1 percent over the 23,611 vehicles sold in July 2006. The BMW Group also increased its year-to-date sales volume to 192,702 vehicles, an increase of 6.5 percent, compared to 180,857 vehicles in the same period of 2006. We see BMW to continue with this trend, hopping on the back of Mini when the Clubman is introduced next year, as well as the BMW 1 Series US debut.
Mercedes-Benz USA reported sales of 18,586 new vehicles for July, bringing this years total to 136,826 vehicles, a 0.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year and marking the best year-to-date sales volume in its history. However, when compared to sales in July 2006 (21,591 vehicles sold), Mercedes has posted a 13.9% lower volume. I am sure all across the dealerships, the question is being asked: "why aren't we selling more cars?". Answer: Stiff competition from the up and coming Japanese luxury car maker, Lexus.
While Audi's 1.7% sales increase isn't as drastic as BMW's success for July, a low positive growth month is still better than a loss in anyone's book. Audi sold 7,127 vehicles in July 2007, up from 7,005 in 2006. The reason for the smallish increase? Model lines haven't changed since 1992.
