We've received a few inquiries about this update pertaining to a dealer's Ratings and Total Number of Reviews, so we thought it would be best to address it in public incase there were other people wondering why their rating went up or down and why their total number of reviews did the same.
Ratings Update and Total Number of Reviews
Ratings
Ratings are now calculated based solely on visible, verified reviews. For the 1st year of DealerRater's existence, we allowed anonymous submissions, these reviews no longer count for or against a Dealer's rating. Ratings were also being calculated on reviews where the user hadn't verified his/her account, now, only verified users' reviews are counted in the ratings total.
Total Number of Reviews
In our previous site, there was a bug in the calculation of the total number of reviews a dealership had. The number previously displayed counted all reviews which had a user account associated with it, whether or not the user was active, or whether or not the review was marked as visible by us. What it did not take into account is the fact that some users registered but never confirmed their account by clicking on the link in the registration email. The Number of Reviews has now been updated to reflect only verified users' reviews. We are working on a way of alerting these users that they need to activate their account before their reviews will be posted.
