CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH REAR SUSPENSION KNUCKLE BOLTS THAT ARE NOT TO SPECIFICATION AND COULD FRACTURE UNDER HIGH LOADS THAT CAN OCCUR IN SOME DRIVING CONDITIONS.
Action Need To Fix It:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH REAR SUSPENSION KNUCKLE BOLTS. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN FEBRUARY 16, 2005. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 OR PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668.

This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 3, 2014, that they are recalling 6,729,742 model year 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997-2005 Chevrolet Malibu, 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
Action Need To Fix It:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will provide two replacement key rings and key cover on all ignition keys, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. GM's number for this recall is 14350.

CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH A FUEL TANK THAT DOES NOT MEET SPECIFICATION. A WELD ON THESE FUEL TANKS MAY BE INSUFFICIENT, RESULTING IN A FUEL LEAK.
Action Need To Fix It:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL TANK, AND REPLACE IT, IF NECESSARY. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JUNE 23, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 OR PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668.

On certain passenger vehicles equipped with rear drum brakes, the bolt heads on the rear spindle rod can separate. The affected rear wheel can shift, causing loss of vehicle control.
Action Need To Fix It:
Dealers will replace the rear spindle bolts. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification will begin during July 2000. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Buick at 1-800- 521-7300.

The steering wheel can come loose from the steering shaft because the steering wheel retaining nut may have been improperly tightened. This condition can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Action Need To Fix It:
Dealers will inspect the steering wheel retaining nut for correct tightness and tighten if necessary. Owner notification began during December 1998. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537 or Pontiac at 1-800-762-2737.
