Seller's Comments

Only 166 RT/10 Roadsters were produced in red in 1996, and it's estimated that only 25 Viper RT/10 Roadsters were produced with the Mustard-colored 5-spoke wheels, making this example a fabulously rare snake indeed. Adding to that, only about 700 Viper Roadsters were produced in 1996, the lowest number since 1992, when just about 285 were built. This one has only traveled 6,176 miles from new. Under the hood is the famed and fabled 8.0L/415 HP V-10 engine with sequential-port fuel injection and a 6-speed manual transmission. The power steering, 4-wheel power disc brakes, air conditioning, AM/FM cassette stereo system, leather interior and removable hardtop gave customers several amenities to stave off the overall brutish nature Vipers quickly became known for. Initially, Chrysler wanted to produce a car that was reminiscent of the original Shelby Cobra: an open-top, lightweight vehicle with huge amounts of power that could rocket to ludicrous speeds in the blink of an eye. Chrysler accomplished its goal, shocking both the public and the press in a good way, although many were a little turned away by the raw nature Viper delivered. This one features a black interior with a contrasting red steering wheel, shift knob and parking-brake handle. The 1996 model year has long been of interest to enthusiasts for a number of reasons, not the least of which being the lower number of cars produced, but also because the 1996 Vipers received about 200 new components over the first generation, making them a kind of Series 1.5 as they retained much of the original's style, but offered more. The engine was refined with reprogrammed computer systems and upgraded exhaust work, a hardtop was available, about 200 pounds were dropped, chassis rigidity was improved and braking was enhanced, among other things. The 1996 model year hinted at great things to come from Viper, and finding one in exemplary condition, particularly equipped with rare colors, is quite a find.
