Deceptive sales practices. 8/15/23 Visited Grieco Toyota to look at a 2021 Avalon. Loved it but the price was on the very high side of my budget and it didn't have AWD. Later that evening, I changed my mind and texted Henry Mota, the sales guy, to let him know I wanted to test drive it in the morning. 8/16/23 Had a great test drive. Henry was helpful and personable. I decided to purchase the vehicle. We started filling out all the documents and low and behold... the price had shot up >10% overnight. Apparently, Henry either didn't think an extra $4k was relevant or he wasn't aware it changed overnight. Oddly, I had checked the advertised price that very morning and there wasn't any change. I don't think I've ever made a public scene over any purchase in my life until then... however, the extra $4k they tried to slip into the purchase agreement was so shocking and absurd that I bolted upright swearing loudly (rather embarrassing). I should have walked out then and there, but I had already been without a vehicle for several weeks and I was desperate to get this done. To this day, I can't tell if it was Henry or "the finance office" that wanted to fleece me for an extra $4k. Henry tried to brush it away as a "market adjustment" or some other nonsense put in place by someone from the back office. That's a substantial overnight shift... I think it's more likely they knew I was interested and they engage in deceptive pricing strategies. Anyway, they reduced it to the advertised price after I threatened to leave and we finished the transaction. I didn't have a local bank, so a cashier's check was out of the question. Henry said they would accept a personal check because of my excellent credit. So, I cut the check. Later in the process I was told I could pick up the vehicle once the check cleared. I offered to initiate a wire transfer, but he said it would take just as long. I finally relented and ubered home without a vehicle. For the next week and a half I constantly checked in because my bank said they had not seen the check on their side. At this point I hadn't had a car in over a month, making it impossible to function with a busy job, a girlfriend that lives 50 minutes away and four kids. I missed a number of opportunities in that time frame sitting at home waiting for that check to clear. 8/23/23 The dealership finally released the car to me, even though the check hadn't cleared. I bring the car home and have a chat with my neighbor who asked me if I knew the RI Attorney General sued and fined them for engaging in deceptive sales and pricing practices: https://riag.ri.gov/press-releases/attorney-general-neronha-enforces-consumer-protection-law-against-local-auto-dealer. Things you wish you knew before doing business with an organization. The next two months through 10/26: I touched base several times to let them know the check still hadn't cleared. I had been searching scenarios like this online. A number of people reported similar situations where a dealership's finance department finally reconciled their checking accounts and realized payment hadn't been made. People reported seizure of vehicles. Granted, this wasn't specific to Grieco Toyota. However, after two months of stressing about this, someone in their finance department finally realized THEY NEVER DEPOSITED THE CHECK. I requested reimbursement for all the ubers I needed to take in the timeframe that they held back the car because the check (that they didn't deposit) hadn't cleared. They offered to pay the $200+ in uber fees if I took this review down. I'll pass. Redeeming qualities: Henry was professional and patient, even when I was obviously very frustrated. If the price had remained as advertised that morning and a wire transfer intitiated, this would have been a very, very different review. 5 stars for the car itself... love it. The malicious pricing and incompetence of the people behind the scenes caused a lot of anxiety, anger and fru More

Don't ever think about putting a deposit on a car at this dealership. should the sale fall through, they will try to keep your deposit claiming it was non refundable, without having told you that information dealership. should the sale fall through, they will try to keep your deposit claiming it was non refundable, without having told you that information before you placed the deposit. Now they have an issue with the Attorney General on their hands. More
Many Grieco Toyota reviews mention Bait and Switch. I now know why. Grieco Toyota pays KBB trade value! That's what it's website says. KBB is linked on the Grieco site's header, and Greico's Price1 Advantage specifically says so. SEE PHOTO. The website provides the direct link to KBB to get that value. SEE PHOTO. Through Grieco's site, I got mine - $37,368. SEE PHOTO. Grieco Toyota pays MORE than KBB trade value! That's what manager Katie texted me. She wrote: “I wanted to let you know that the Rav4 Hybrid XSE is available. We’re also paying up to 20% over for trades through our partners over at KBB.” SEE PHOTO. This was good. The Rav4 XSE I wanted was available, the asking price on it was fair, and I got a nice trade on my Lexus. A plus the added up-to-20% bonus Katie sent. I was ready to buy. Bait and Switch. Grieco's "KBB Specialist" Bruce texted me to say Grieco Toyota would pay $32,000 - $5,368 less than the KBB price. SEE PHOTO. Bruce's excuses were epic. "I have no idea what you're talking about." "Oh that's a mistake." "the banks don't do that anymore." "that was last month." "The market has changed." "We all hate that website." "That's the cash price." Etc. etc. etc. As for manager Katie's text offering up to 20% above KBB, "she's a nice kid. We must have forgotten to tell her we don't offer that anymore." Bruce admitted what the dealership puts on its website is xx. He pleaded, "please understand that we cannot lose thousands due to simple verbiage." Today I got an email from Paul Balay, another manager. "If there was any miscommunication in our advertising that was not our intention." So when a dealer lies on its website, it's actually just "miscommunication" and "simple verbiage." To summarize: I offered to pay the Grieco sticker price for their vehicle - no dickering - and i wanted the KBB trade price applied. Grieco, as explained above, refused. Miscommunication? Simple verbiage? Look at the photos attached, read for yourself, decide for yourself. Then make your decision about who deserves your business on your next vehicle purchase. Hint: I didn't buy from Grieco Toyota. More
15 words, not enough but they have gone downhill since last year. Cocky service guy, don't buy anything but Toyota because I switched to a car off the lot. 6 months later it's, " sorry we only service Toy last year. Cocky service guy, don't buy anything but Toyota because I switched to a car off the lot. 6 months later it's, " sorry we only service Toyotas. " Buyer beware. If your service guy sounds like cherch or chong just smoked a bowl, that's the ignorant person I spoke with . Who in fact refused to give his name and hung up on me. There's nice people still there but customer service after you buy is worthless. I've even sent customers to there and they bought vehicles. That won't happen again. More

So when I saw Bruce walk by i asked him if there were any new vehicle’s he said not right now maybe in a couple of weeks. So we sat with him and he told us what he had coming in. We decided to go with the Toyota Highlander. Now not seeing the vehicle and just going by the description we made a decision to get it. Bruce gave us all the options we had and traded in the old car. Today we went to get the new car and my oh my what a beautiful car it’s. I highly recommend Bruce he made this happen when I thought it wouldn’t. Thanks again Bruce for being such a great person. Nasty place to buy a car! ! Let me tell you why. B. Kirby is a pill. So is the manager and the finance person. If you want to be treated like a second-class citizen this is th ! Let me tell you why. B. Kirby is a pill. So is the manager and the finance person. If you want to be treated like a second-class citizen this is the place for you. We were looking for a used car that was in decent shape. The one we saw was in good mechanical condition. Cosmetically it needed a few things. They would not spend the $10 to replace the windshield spray nozzle. Image selling a car to someone when they cannot clean the windshield to see out of it, "customer safety" must be their moto. They absolutely refused to correct any issues like that. They claimed to have done a through vehicle check including all the fluid levels, surprise when we looked under the hood the power steering fluid was low, radiator was low, there was a dead mouse sitting on the frame of the car that had been there for a while. Ole B. Kirby couldn't care less showed no surprise or concern never even offered to get rid of it or fill the fluids as they had claimed to already have done. We did purchase the vehicle but that was a run around. Grieco refused to accept a personal check or a debit card. They expected us to go to the bank and then bring back a bank check or they would take a personal check and we would have to wait 10 days for the check to clear before we could have the mouse mobile. We decided to leave and let them keep the car. We got in the car and by the time we started backing out the finance person came out and said the manager would be kind enough to accept half the price in personal check and half the price as a debit. Wasn't that great for "us". Then they charged us $125 for going to the registry the normal charge is $50. Then of course their $250 document fee and I don't remember what other fees but it added up to about $500 over the real costs of the vehicle. Needless to say, we will not be buying from ANY Grieco location in the future. I would recommend that you stay away as well. I have bought many cars for myself and my 5 children I have helped other family members buy cars on numerous occasions this was, BY FAR, the worst experience I have been involved in. One more notch on the old Grieco belt. Good job boys, hope that new dealership your build ends up as a homeless shelter soon. More
