Good service overall. Just one pitfall: the left-door mirror came with a defect on this brand-new car. Now I have to go back to leave the car there for them to fix this issue. mirror came with a defect on this brand-new car. Now I have to go back to leave the car there for them to fix this issue. More
Purchased a 2021 Toyota Prius Prime on June 7th. Ardit was great to work with. He was professional, attentive, and kind. As I wrapped up my purchase, the Sales Manager, Richard McAllister Jr. greeted me i was great to work with. He was professional, attentive, and kind. As I wrapped up my purchase, the Sales Manager, Richard McAllister Jr. greeted me in the parking lot, congratulated me on my purchase, handed me his business card and asked me to drop off a blank check, as the state of CT will be issuing a $500 rebate for the purchase of an EV. He told me to "feel free to reach out to him with any questions." I brought a blank check as requested two days after the purchase. I was promised that the rebate would be delivered in approximately two weeks in the form of a deposit to my bank account. No rebate arrived. I placed a call and spoke to Ardit, who assured me the blank check was on his sales manager's desk. I waited another week, called, and left a voicemail for Mr. McAllister. No call back. I waited two weeks, and placed another call, being shuffled around to different departments trying to track Mr. McAllister down. I was told by two different people that he "was there" and that he "was off today" as I spent time on hold after explaining the situation, only to be transferred to someone else who had no idea why I was on hold. I left another VM asking for a call back. No call back. At this point I was not upset, I was simply trying to find out why the rebate hadn't been issued. I went to the dealership and stopped in trying to get an answer, I was told that it was Richard McAllister's job to take care of the rebates and that he wasn't in. The woman at the front desk took all of my information down, informed the manager of the dealership that I have been trying to get answers to no avail, and left a note for Mr. McAllister to call back. Nobody appeared to help explain the situation or find out any additional information. I then placed two more calls (I was told he would be in the day after I stopped in) to try and get in touch with him on a day where he was in the office. One call at 9AM one at approximately 2:30PM. Again, sent to voicemail both times. Never a call back. On 7/28 I called CHEAPR, the CT state agency that handles rebates. They informed me that it is NOT policy for them to issue a rebate to a bank account, and that the cost SHOULD HAVE come off the price of the car, which it did not. Also, I was told by Hartford Toyota that the rebate was $500, when State of CT lists it as a $750 rebate. I stopped in again, was made to wait 45 minutes while Mr. McAllister talked with co-workers, and greeted people that arrived well after I did to the dealership (presumably because they were there to buy, something I had already done so I suppose I was seen as a waste of time or low priority). I was promised he "would be right out." I waited patiently while the front desk person had lunch, then came back, at which point I told her I'm giving him 5 minutes. I was irritated, but calm. He appeared, finally, sat down, and as I began to explain why I was there, he interrupted me, and told me that CHEAPR changed some paperwork, and that he has had to wait 6 weeks to issue rebates, he has a huge stack of them to get through, etc. etc. No apology for not returning calls. No interest in hearing anything I had to say. Again, I was treated like an annoyance less than 2 months after purchasing a brand new vehicle. I explained to him that from a customer service standpoint, this reflects very poorly on the dealership. I purchased a car for over $30K, it is a huge decision to choose a dealership and purchase a new vehicle. I was promptly treated like I did not exist. No calls back, nobody attending to the issue, and no communication whatsoever from the dealership. I explained that this makes Hartford Toyota appear incompetent at best, or at worst, like employees there do not care to do the job they are supposed to do, and have zero customer service skills... ... Which was proven correct by what happened next. While I was explaining my irritation (at no point did I raise my voice), Mr. McAllister stood up and walked away while I was mid-sentence. I was offering feedback about my experience as a customer, though admittedly I did drop one foul word when describing the frustration I experienced at all of the wasted time having to make numerous trips to the dealership and phone calls to get answers, and never having any help from anyone. Just being honest here, it is frustrating being ignored as a customer. I had no intention of providing feedback to DealerRater until this happened. Since my feedback in person was not appreciated, the best I can do is offer it here publicly. All of this could've been solved by one phone call that would've lasted all of 60 seconds. "Hi, got your call, I'm working on it, don't worry we haven't forgotten about you, how's the car driving?" But no, no courtesy whatsoever. It's not that hard to make a phone call to a customer. This is a teachable moment. I would have understood the explanation and would've been patient. Communication is important. An outright refusal - by a Sales Manager no less - to do the simple task of dialing some digits on a phone is embarrassingly poor customer relations. I would NEVER purchase a car here again. Not after being treated this way. Nothing as simple as an apology, no communication, and as he stood up, turned his back and walked away, I asked when I should follow up and his reply was: "Don't follow up." Duly noted. To me, this speaks volumes about the lack of character within the walls of the dealership. The sense of entitlement from someone who is in a management position is sad. Stay away from this dealership if you have any expectation to be treated fairly. You are simply there to sign papers as quickly as possible so they can move on to the next sale. After that, from my personal experience, you do not matter anymore. This is the poorest customer service I've experienced in a very long time, and it is extremely disappointing to have to deal with a sales manager that acts in a childish manner because he lacked the simplest amount of courtesy and a few minutes of his time to call a customer and explain what was going on, and refused to hear any well-deserved honest feedback on his lack of performance. Clearly, they don't want to improve the service they provide. They want you to pay up, and go away. I will be looking for a different dealership to service the vehicle and when it's time to purchase a 2nd vehicle for our family, we will absolutely not consider Hartford Toyota. I will be patiently awaiting the arrival of the owed/promised rebate, though I have little faith that it will actually be completed. I hope my experience helps those looking for honest feedback on this location. Apart from that, the car itself is truly fantastic. It is comfortable and reliable and unlike this dealership, very responsive. More
