Salesman was very patient and stood in the rain along w/us STRESS FREE!! I had already walked away from 2 dealerships since Oct. A couple of things came up afterward but the salesman Shawn Downey was very helpful in resolving some of the differences and made some Good Will concessions when not required. He represented both his company and his customer with excellence. The issues were resolved to my agreement. I would Strongly recommend you work with Shawn Downey as he will stay in your corner as I felt he really appreciated my business and while my deal was small compared to others I always felt I mattered as much as someone that spent 3 times the money. Was invited to EPP VIP event by Nick Khaytin VIP manager. He did not attend or meet even once during appointment. Representative offered special $750 discount on MSRP as part of EPP VIP event. Lipstick on a Pig My wife and I were in the market to replace her 2014 Mazda CX-5 with a new vehicle. We test drove several and came to the conclusion that we wanted t My wife and I were in the market to replace her 2014 Mazda CX-5 with a new vehicle. We test drove several and came to the conclusion that we wanted to purchase a 2019 Mazda CX-9 (Touring). We are USAA members, so we submitted for member pricing on this Mazda. We were submitted to three dealerships, including Keffer Mazda. I've had experience with Keffer a couple of times in the past... one time for service (long waits, but "average" experience) and another time when we were trying to gather pricing on a 2019 Mazda CX-5 (Grand Touring) in November 2019. They tried everything they could to get my wife to set foot in their door because they could give us "better pricing than USAA with employee pricing". My wife and I don't set foot in a dealership with two exceptions: to test drive OR to sign paperwork for a deal that we have already previously negotiated. In this case, as we had already decided on the Mazda CX-9 and Keffer seemed to have the best pricing available, we conceded and went on-site so that we could get an "out the door" number on the CX-9. When we walked in, we noticed that they had completely remodeled the sales and the service areas. It looks really nice but, as we soon found out, this was just lipstick on a pig. We asked to speak to a sales representative to talk about the price we had been given through USAA on the CX-9. The front desk clerk said that somebody would be with us shortly. I'm not sure why we needed to wait for ten minutes... there were several sales representatives standing there and screwing around talking to the general manager. However, we were eventually paired with Bob Falcigno. At this point, I should point out that I think Bob is a product of the culture of Keffer Mazda, but since he carried through with our "Keffer experience", he needs to be held accountable. We sat in Bob's cubicle for well over an hour going over numbers that should have been very easy to pull. After a short period of time, my wife took over the proceedings and ran the numbers for Bob and asked if the numbers she wrote were correct for "out the door" pricing. Bob scurried back and forth between his cubicle and the general manager's office (at one point returning to gather the piece of paper my wife had compiled because the general manager "had a headache" and apparently couldn't confirm numbers in his "condition"). Bob confirmed the numbers with the general manager (finally), and then the pressure tactics began. He wanted to know how he could get us in that car tonight, and we said we needed to think about it. I went so far as to tell him that I would not allow my wife to buy the car that evening and that we needed to discuss it (mostly just to keep him from attempting to pressure my wife). My wife wanted to take the written offer for review overnight, but Bob said we could not do that. Therefore, we took a picture of the document, we took a look at the car that was being offered, and said we would be in touch shortly when we made a decision. This morning, Bob started texting my wife about when she was going to come in to close the deal on the car. In the interim, we received an offer from Gastonia Mazda to sell us same car at the same price. Since we have dealt with a particular salesman at Gastonia Mazda several times before, we decided to go with that particular offer. Apparently, however, Gastonia was going to get the car they were selling us in a transfer from Keffer. Bob apparently found out, and started texting my wife about how we went against our word of not shopping his offer around and that he was gracious enough (and I quote) to "let us leave" the night before. In truth, we made no such promises to not shop around, but I did thank Bob for graciously pardoning us from an apparent hostage situation. I then told Bob not to contact us anymore, and that we would not now, nor in the future. ever have any dealing with Keffer Mazda. Don't let the facade fool you. This dealership is shady, and is simply a throwback to high pressure sales tactics. For everyone out there (as apparently there are people that don't know this since Keffer still makes sales with high pressure tactics): 1) You are entitled to shop around for the best price on a car, no matter what a dealer tells you. If you haven't signed anything, there's no deal, nor are you legally obligated to anything. 2) You can get up and leave a dealership whenever you want. Keffer Mazda and Bob Falcigno may think that they need to grant permission for you to roam freely about, but it's simply not true. 3) If you decide to work with Keffer Mazda, make sure you know what you are buying and all of the places that they can hide numbers. In our case, the way that Keffer offered a better deal through USAA was that there were several options that were taken off of the particular vehicle that were present on the others from other dealers. When you finally added those options back, their price wasn't necessarily that much better. Having read reviews of Keffer, somehow I think there was going to be an extra "undercoating" charge at close to make their deal worse. 4) There are plenty of Mazda dealerships in the state of NC (and other states), and many of them will work with you to get you a good deal. Case in point... Gastonia Mazda. Do your research, know the numbers, know the vehicle and you will be fine. If a dealer starts trying to pressure you, move on to one who won't. 5) Even if Keffer does have the best price (again, make sure you know ALL the numbers before you make this decision), think about the dealership selling you the car. The up-cost for better service is different for everybody, but I would have paid a few hundred dollars more NOT to deal with Keffer. Yes... I would actually pay extra money not to deal with Keffer Mazda. In fact, if Keffer ended up being the best price I could get, my wife would simply be driving her 2014 CX-5 until we could get a better deal elsewhere. Again, I think Bob may be a product of the system (ironically, as my wife was running numbers for Bob, I had occasion to read the photocopy of the sales tactics that Keffer Mazda pushes on their sales people... "create urgency" and "feign interest in the personal lives of your customers"), but I recommend staying away from both him and Keffer Mazda. More
