Disappointed with Rice :( I've typically been happy with Rice Toyota but today was different. I bought a new 2011 Camry and a new 2016 Highlander from them. Today I called ab I've typically been happy with Rice Toyota but today was different. I bought a new 2011 Camry and a new 2016 Highlander from them. Today I called about my Highlander battery post which was loose INSIDE the battery itself. The cable would turn WITH the positive battery post turning inside the battery. I was checking the battery with the colder temperatures coming. Turns out this is pretty dangerous with the potential to short the battery and explode (and the plastic housing was cracked all around the post). My Highlander was inside the 3 year warranty window but had just turned 36,202 miles. I called Rice and talked to Brandi who said it was still eligible for warranty and recommended coming in soon. The service tech and garage representative both said this was dangerous and took my Highlander and said the battery was part of the warranty. After waiting an hour I was told the battery post was broken inside the battery and would need to be replaced. Unfortunately though it was out of warranty due to the mileage (according to the service manager). I was upset since I had driven quite a ways and waited with the expectation that it was considered still warrantied. Additionally, the battery post didn't suddenly crack apart in the last couple days when I drove the last 200 miles. I appreciate the helpfulness of folks but wish I could get my afternoon back and have taken my car down the street to a nearby shop. More
