I 7/21/09 went online to research the purchase of a new car after having been contemplating a purchase of the same intended car with Toyota on Western in Chicago. I was contacted by AJ of Grossinger in Li car after having been contemplating a purchase of the same intended car with Toyota on Western in Chicago. I was contacted by AJ of Grossinger in Lincolnwood, IL and told him of my intentions to by a new car. I mentioned that I had a car I was trading so he said he couldn't give me trade in terms sight unseen regardless of my description to him. He asked if I could come in that day, and I told him not then but maybe the next day. I entered the dealership on my lunch break and met AJ where he as the internet manager assigned me to a salesman named Michael. Michael and I discussed terms of purchase and trade in and came to an agreement. Michael then asked me to give him a credit card to "show his manager so he would know I was serious". I told him that was stupid that I already had been approved by Toyota credit at the store on Western all they had to do was call them to run the deal. After 3 hours of waiting on who knows what, even though Michael said our deal was accepted by his management (the do ring around the rosie-and I said I was going to leave) he assured me we'd be out in 20 minutes. I kept asking him what the final numbers were going to be for me and he NEVER said. I told him again I needed to know. Long story short, they did a bait and switch on the numbers. Somehow, the selling price for car that was $26,800 and $13,500 ended up being more than a car that I was quoted at $28,358 and $14000 trade. I brought to there attention and they started the crunching numbers cherade. I said that's okay I won't buy it. They started all this other number crunching I said I’ve got to go you all have wasted too much of my time already. They, having made the request for my credit card failed to give it back. I called the dealer at 6:00pm to requesting the return of my card and was informed the "Michael" had left and they did not know the whereabouts but would have him call me when he returned the next day. The next day I called to speak to him, they said he wasn't there yet but would have him call me when he arrived. Hours later I called again only to find out he was off, but spoke to AJ and he claimed to have located the card. I told him I needed my card for business and he said he would see what he could do to get it to me. He called back and asked me to come in, I said "unacceptable I already made one trip out there and it was not my fault my card even left my pocket in the 1st place". He then said he was trying to help me but he was going to put me on the phone with his manager. "Josh" got on the phone and requested I come in to which I said absolutely not. I explained what happened he said he wanted to review the deal exclaiming that shouldn't have happened that's not how he trains his personnel. He said he needed 15 minutes to review the file and would call me back. An hour later I called and left message for him to call me back. Next hour I simply left word that I required my keys that day and they need to get them to me. No one called me back. July 23, 2009 Michael calls me trying to sell me the car again; I say "my terms are the same just get me my credit card back". At 1:44pm He requested 10 minutes to confer with his manger to "see what he could do to reach those terms" He asked for concession I told him what I would do. 7 hours later I call and ask him why I hadn't heard back from him in the 10 minutes promised. To which he claims he was told I was coming in. I then demanded my card be returned so I can have MY CARD for MY BUSINESS and he tells me I need to come and get it. He said he doesn't have a car (working at a dealership and he wasn't going to bring it to me). He did not offer to overnight express it to me as I told him US mail was unacceptable as it was now8:15 pm and I wouldn't get my card until the following Monday barring express delivery. More
Despite my sister's experience at Grossinger (leaving a $500.00 deposit for a car that never appeared, and having to fight to have her money refunded) I attempted anyway to lease a sienna from your dealers $500.00 deposit for a car that never appeared, and having to fight to have her money refunded) I attempted anyway to lease a sienna from your dealership. On Saturday 5/23, we worked with Kevin for 2 1/2 hours on a lease deal. We agreed on a lease payment with nothing down at my current lease payment of $382.00. I preferred a black sienna, and was told Kevin would search for one and to check back in a couple of days. Tuesday, I called Kevin's cell, left a message. Spoke with Chris who assured me "it's no problem to get the car, just come in, we may need to re-do Kevin's deal, but we will get your car." I did, the deal was re-done at $390 (why the price increase i don't know). I left a $100 credit card deposit. Again, why was this not done on Saturday? Thursday, no call from anyone. I know there is a black Sienna at multiple dealerships from my own investigation. Call Chris, "he is with someone". Three hours later Chris answers my second call "Oh, I just got it in; having trouble locating the car-Libertyville wont release it to us." I am now beginning to feel a bit played... It's six days, the lease incentive is running out, I make a decision to check out the other dealerships. Thursday evening I return to Grossinger to cancel the "order" and refund the deposit. I am told 3-4 people have to sign a piece of paper before I can be refunded $100! "I'm not trying to hold on to your money" Chris said. REALLY! "This guy who sits here is friends with a guy at another dealership, he can probably get your car tomorrow morning, do you want to wait?" REALLY! Left the building, called Chase bank and flagged my credit card for the deposit. After visiting two reputable Toyota dealerships it became apparent that there was NO POSSIBLE WAY, your deal was ever going to go through. Nor had you contacted them for their black Sienna's. As a fluke I googled Grossinger dealership ratings. Wow, I guess I should have done that before I entered your building... More

This was my first time buying a new car. And I went to look by myself (I am a 20-something woman). I was a little nervous about the treatment I would receive being a woman and flying solo. But I was impre look by myself (I am a 20-something woman). I was a little nervous about the treatment I would receive being a woman and flying solo. But I was impressed by how up front and personable Dean was. Everyone else I encountered at the dealership was very friendly, i.e. saying hello and asking if I had been helped. The finance guy offered his bottom line and itemized all the details. I wasn't ready to commit and also wanted to shop around. He told me to try to find someone who could beat his deal. I tried and I couldn't. I was warned about hidden fees they would try to sneak in at the end. But the price I was told was the out the door price. I went back the next day to make the purchase with some moral support from my dad. They still talked to me as the purchaser and didn't talk over me to my dad. The only complaint I have is that I spent a lot of time sitting at the salesman's desk waiting and I thought the process could have been a little more efficient. Overall I had a good first time buying experience and would recommend this dealership to friends and family. More
DO NOT SUBJECT YOURSELF TO DEALING WITH THESE PEOPLE!!! DO NOT SUBJECT YOURSELF TO DEALING WITH THESE PEOPLE!!! I have been researching used cars for about a month now. I came across a RAV-4 advertised DO NOT SUBJECT YOURSELF TO DEALING WITH THESE PEOPLE!!! I have been researching used cars for about a month now. I came across a RAV-4 advertised both on this dealers website and the Tribune. I go to the dealer on a Saturday and don't find it on the lot. I speak with Joseph in sales who then walks the lot with me, and doesn't find it either. He tells me it was sold on Thursday. He took down my information and said he would contact me if they got another in stock. On Monday I get a call from Richard who asks, "So I see you're intereted in a RAV 4, What can we do to earn your business?" I tell him to have one in stock since they didn't have one when I previously visited. He tells me they have one in stock, and begins to describe it. (IT'S THE SAME ONE I WANTED TO SEE!!) He asked if I wanted to come in for a test drive, we set an appointment for Thursday evening. On Tuesday I come home to TWO seperate messages. One from "Christopher, the sales manager" asking me to call him to confirm my appointment for Thursday (Also asking me 'what can we do to earn my business), and another from Richard ALSO asking me to call him to confirm the appointment on Thursday. I quickly return Richards call to confirm, and he says the car is still on the lot and he will see me Thursday. (Did they really need to have TWO different people call 1 hour apart to leave a message?) When I arrived on Thursday evening, I asked to see Richard. When Richard comes to greet me, I introduce myself reminding him about our appointment, he had NO CLUE who I was. He asks, "What car were you interested in?" I tell him the RAV 4. "The 09 one right!" I said, "No the 06!!!" He says he will be right with me...comes back 5 minutes later with ANOTHER salesman Jimmy, and tells me Jimmy will now handle this. (He was obviously with someone else but couldn't communicate to me!) Jimmy says he needs to find the keys and pull the car up. 15 MINUTES LATER, he finally arrives with the car....THE WRONG CAR. I tell him about the one I was looking at, and he says, they already sold it a while ago. This car had a HUGE dent in the side of it! This was a typical case of BAIT AND SWITCH. So when they ask you "What can we do to earn your business?" Tell them, BE HONEST WITH ME!!! More
went there months ago to buy a car, after reading reviews about mob men working there and bad service we still went there to find a good deal. matt and some salesman were way to pushy, also as we were leavin about mob men working there and bad service we still went there to find a good deal. matt and some salesman were way to pushy, also as we were leaving my friend saw someone she remembered that she says was involved in organized crimes. when we asked the salesman you that was he sai his name was johnk, i guess all the reviews online are true. they hire gangsters and give bad service, ironically as we were leaving, johnk held the door open for us and asked if our experience was a pleasant and if there was anythng we can do to make a deal, no thanks!!! This by far was the best buying experences I have ever had. The people are wonderful and thoughtful. The whole team was wonderful thru the whole transaction. I had an issue and they took care of it right had. The people are wonderful and thoughtful. The whole team was wonderful thru the whole transaction. I had an issue and they took care of it right away at their expense,it was around $500.00. They said the way I approached them was very kind and I beleive you always get more with honey than you do with viniger and that has always been my approach. I wish other business could do as well as they do. Thank you so much. I think it is important that I take the time to make everyone aware how great they are, because as you can see they sell alot of cars and service thousands of people and only a few have comments and as the norm they tend to be negative.I know they take care of alot of their customers ,as if they did not I am sure they would not be in business for almost 90 years !!! Thank you again grossingers !!!!!! Very Satisfied. More
I purchased a vehicle on 10-28-08. This was a 2004 Lexus for $20K. The windshield was cracked, lighter not working, vanity mirror not working, and front bumper scratched.. The sales rep RENATO assured me for $20K. The windshield was cracked, lighter not working, vanity mirror not working, and front bumper scratched.. The sales rep RENATO assured me these items would be repaired. Was given the car without an owner's manual as well. Brought the car back the following day and was given a "loaner" which was extremely dirty. Returned to following day approx. 2 hours earlier than planned and they hadn't even looked at the car. My understanding was ALL REPAIRS were supposed to have been made. This was why they kept the vehicle overnight. Was first told the parts were burned out and a part needed to be ordered. Was then told it was just a fuse and it was replaced. Never looked at the windshield or the vanity mirror. Made appt to bring the car back again. Brought the car back and was again given a "loaner." This "loaner" did not start the next morning thus I had to call a cab to get to work the following morning. Grossinger picked me up from my job (a mile from the dealership) with MY VEHICLE and I brought Grossinger employee to my house where he could not start the car. He took the keys with him. Perhaps 2 or 3 evenings later a tow truck driver calls me and asks "what kind of car is it I am having towed?" I explained this is Grossinger's vehicle call them. He called 2 or 3 times requesting to know what kind of vehicle and telling me to bring him keys. This was a joke. Apparently they pay no attention to "DETAIL." Upon closer inspection of my vehicle, they repaired the scratch and broke the bumper (missing a clip), car had been driven approx. 50 miles and was down 1/4 tank of gas. All they had done was touch up the scratch. Windshield is still broken, vanity mirror is still not working and now the bumper is damaged. Grossinger says in "good faith" they will mail me a check for my cab fare which I incurred because their "loaner" car would not start and when I'm down 1/4 tank of gas to bring it in and they will fill it. They advise me that all the rest is at my cost? I am still arguing with them as of this date. If anyone else has had similar problems I would love to hear about it. Wouldn't shop there again if you paid me. More
