As bad and underhanded as a generic mechanic - Dmitry B.
For a service department of a Jeep dealership, they show remarkably low understanding of the work required, and seem to be geared towards maximizing profit at the expense of the customer. There's no confidence that the service department is knowledgeable enough, or even honest enough to work on problems slightly more complex than an oil change.
If you are willing to give them any work, even under warranty, make sure you check all paperwork and double-check if the repairs are necessary and carried out in full. I know, this is asking a bit too much from an average person, so my suggestion is to avoid dealing with them altogether.
I own a JKU 2011 with manual transmission. At approximately 39000 miles, while the vehicle was still under warranty, I brought it in with a concern about a noise pertaining to the clutch. The service department has "diagnosed" the problem and suggested to replace the clutch. Thinking "this is a Jeep service department, so they must know what they are talking about" I have agreed to the replacement. Alas, clutch components are not covered by the warranty, so the expense came out of pocket.
One and a half years later, the hydraulic system of the new clutch has failed. It turns out the service department has replaced the slave cylinder, but kept the original master cylinder. Sigh...
Another two years go by, and now at approximately 78000 miles there's noise coming from the clutch again. This time I took it upon myself to look up the symptoms, and found a specific TSB describing the exact problem. The gist of it is that NSG370 transmissions have a design flaw that doesn't put correct pre-load on the throw-out bearing; the correct pre-load is achieved by adding some washers and whatnot.
Albeit the vehicle no longer under warranty, I brought it in for diagnosis. While describing the problem, I've shown a printout of the TSB to the service advisor, and was told that when the technician will be performing diagnostics, any and all relevant TSBs will come up, so there was no need for my input at the time.
Alas, the final diagnosis has disappointed. The found problem was generic (i.e. "throw-out bearing is bad"), no mention of any TSB. The suggestion was to replace the clutch. Again... Except this time it is almost 1.5x times more expensive.
1. Notwithstanding the need for the original clutch replacement, the job was not done professionally.
1.1. When hydraulic clutch components are replaced, it is advisable that both master and slave cylinders are replaced at the same time; because one of the cylinders was not replaced, the hydraulic system has failed.
1.2. The TSB in question should have been implemented with the original clutch replacement, as this is a known design flaw of all NSG370 transmissions.
2. The most recent diagnosis is failing to take into account specifics of the problem, opting for a generic description, and excessive suggested repairs.
Bad Customer Service and Financial Staff - Rose F
Purchased vehicle on September 26, 2018. Still waiting for tags and registration.
Do not acknowledge discounts unless you take the paperwork in for them to see. AAA offered $500 discount and CU offered a lesser finance rate BUT because I did not have car insurance with my CU I was denied that lesser rate by dealer.
Canceled Warranty within time permitted. Warranty Company said check was sent to dealer within a week but dealer did not send to CU over a month.
I am informed by dealer that tags and registration were sent back to them cause of wrong address that I specifically corrected at time of transaction, so now driving without tags or registration.
I believe Sean was upset due to the warranty cancelation which is very immature of any financial advisor. Will now be back to SV car dealer due to unprofessional staff.
ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE - Jesse
THE WORST experience I've ever had with a car service ever in my life. Bought a $60,000 Hellcat here. Had to come back 3 times with the same check engine light problem which they were unable to fix. First time, one of the girls, Liz, accused me of installing "after market parts" into the car, which was absolute BS and tried to charge me $300 to re-install the firmware. When I refused to accept that, they just cleared the check engine light code and sent me home. (not to mention that Liz was very eager to ask me to give her 10 stars when I get a satisfaction survey email)
Of course a week later the light came back. This time I was talking to Stephanie, I explained to her that the code is associated with the fuel pumps, which likely need to be replaced (after doing a simple google search for the code). The car was sitting there, outside (got it back looking like it was sh*t on) for 3 weeks. This is not a $5000 used car. it's a $60K premium car. Would it hurt to hose it down before returning to customer? I should get it back in at least the same condition I brought it in. Again, it's a $60,000 vehicle and they just toss it back to me with a layer of thick dried up dirt on it even though there's a bunch of guys washing cars for new customers in the same garage.
When I lost my nerve and started inquiring, it turns out that nobody touched the car for 2 weeks until I started complaining, and then they proceeded to replace the wrong part, apparently cleared the code, and sent me home. Of course, the code came back again. This time I took it to Glendale instead, where they fixed the problem within 24 hours (and for those curious, yes, of course it was the fuel pumps, which they replaced)
At the same time, I had a plastic cover on the bottom of the car that needed to be replaced. Although I went to great lengths to explain to Stephanie exactly which part was broken, and I even had a printout of the part name AND AN IMAGE OF IT, I found out a month later that they returned the car to me without fixing anything, with a hole under my engine.
Everybody in the shop has a crappy attitude and acts as if the customer isn't even there. After I complained, I turned around to see Freddie (I made sure to take their names this time) laughing behind my back. I guess I was just another inconvenience for them to laugh off.
During this entire nightmare, I was told several times by several different people that they would call me back. BUT NOBODY EVER CALLS BACK. The service girls run around with their iPads but when they tell you they will give you an update on your car before the end of day, don't expect to hear back. They never do. I always had to call and ask. After I complained to the owner of the dealership, I was told someone would call me the following Monday, of course nobody called. I had to demand their attention once more to get anyone on the phone.
I filed a complaint with Dodge and am in talks with a lawyer, since my car spent a total of over a FULL MONTH at this place and they DIDN'T FIX ANYTHING. I went through so much trouble asking for favors, taking time off work and not being able to get around without a car. A month of sitting outside in the dirt and the car was returned to me untouched. I will never return here again (which sucks because Glendale is a much longer drive, but it's worth it a million times to avoid this place at all costs).
Pushed unnecessary work - Jeff54321
This dealer told me I needed to have work done on my front differential, which had just been rebuilt a week beforehand by a reputable mechanic. Also said I had fluid leaks. This also had been addressed by a mechanic before the service. I happened to need to take it to a third mechanic who I asked to check these supposed needs. He said there were no such problems. Stay far away. Not to be trusted.
Do not buy from these dishonest people! - CSRO 1957
I had an incredibly bad experience when buying a used car from this dealership. I purchased a 2016 Jeep Wrangler as a surprise for my daughter. I am over 60 with Rheumatoid Arthritis, so I didn't get down on the ground and look under the car. when I got home with the car, a friend standing at the bottom of the driveway noticed that the car was totally rusted on the bottom. I wish I could post a picture as it is unbelievable. I called to return the car and was told that all Jeeps look like this. I was even told that they would take me over and show me the bottom on brand new jeeps and I would see rust. This is NOT true. The ENTIRE undercarriage of the car was rusted. It looks like the car was in a flood and not cared for. In addition, the passenger seatbelt didn't work. They said they would fix it, but I didn't want to spend $24,000 for a totally rusted car so I returned it. They lied to me numerous times about numerous issues. Cost me 750 hard-earned dollars but I was able to return it. Bought a Jeep at a different dealer the next day - no rust.
