I wanted to thank Ricardo Rodriguez who sold me a car 3 years ago because he still contacts me to see if I’m doing well with my vehicle and recently directed me with getting help to change a flat tire. I called him because he always said he could help. I feel like I am a part of the Gerald Subaru family.

This review is about Peter, the car education specialist, who recently spent about an hour with me going over the fine points of my new Outback. Peter did a fantastic job helping me to become more comfortable with the car, particularly the electronics, so that I can make full use of the features. His help was invaluable and I would highly recommend that new owners/leaders take advantage of his knowledge and expertise.

My Ascent received it’s 12,000 mile service. Everyone at Marion Subaru is friendly and professional. Especially during this unsettling pandemic time, it was nice to know that the car had been cleaned and the window left open for ventilation. (Inside) I don’t do business where people disregard safety protocols. Highly recommend Marion Subaru. I’m an ex Ford owner. Loved my Ford products. Subaru more.

Everyone is so friendly and the service and explanations are thorough. Employees go out of their way to make sure you’re taken care of. My son forgot his phone in the loaner car we used and when we went back to get it, my service advisor, Luis, went out in the pouring rain to look for it in the loaner! On our way out, another employee offered us an umbrella because it was raining so hard. I actually enjoy taking my car into get serviced because it’s always a great experience, thanks to the staff!

This is the worst service department I’ve dealt with,... - Jclinn
This is the worst service department I’ve dealt with, including third party shops. I had a check engine on so I dropped my car off there. Within 30min I get a text from the service tech (Jon Tan) and he tells me that I need a new transmission and it’s going to cost $7900+. My Subaru is a 2014 with almost 120,000 miles on it. He tells me the transmission fluid is burnt to the point they won’t swap it for fear that it would “shock the system” and fry the transmission right away.
I ask what my options are, he tells me that’s my only option. I told him I had a lifetime power train warranty that’s supposed to be good at any Subaru dealership nations wide. He tells me they don’t accept there (100% lie confirmed by his service manager). He tells me I have to go back to the dealership I purchased the vehicle from (another lie confirmed by his boss and another dealership). I said ok and drove my car (with absolutely no problems) 1.5 hrs north to Subaru city in Milwaukee, after paying the absurdly overpriced diagnostic fee of $160 (the highest diagnostic fee around, the dealership I took it too later was $90 diagnostic).
When I arrive, their service techs ask me why I drove all the way up here from Chicago and told them what the other dealership said and they told me they’re not allowed to refuse my warranty. After they spend almost 2 days inspecting my car, they tell me that the transmission isn’t blown and that is was a valve body on the transmission that’s $1,300 (not a new transmission for $7900+). They also covered it under my warranty so it cost me $100 of a deductible, not $7900+ with no alternatives. I asked them to change my transmission fluid and they did with no problem. I asked them if the transmission fluid was “really burnt”, they said it was a little dark but “really burnt” or black.
At this point I call McGrath Subaru and tell them their diagnostic was wrong and I would like my $160 back after providing them the other dealership’s repair Bill contrasted against their quote of $7900+. They agree and tell me to bring in the documents. I bring the documents in and when I do I ask to speak with the service manager. I’m told he’s no there because it was Saturday but that he would be in Monday and that he would contact me about my refund.
Monday comes, no contact from them. I wait a few more days and call them. They send me to their service manager’s voicemail (Adam I think?). I leave a message and wait a few days. This turns into 3 weeks of me calling them every other day to talk to a service manager. I start asking for any manager and got sent to all of their voicemails with no response. I finally force a tech into grabbing their manager and getting them on the phone with me.
He goes through this entire speech of how “he had 2 techs working on it and that’s why they could diagnose it in 30min”. He then tells me that they knew they could have replaced the valve body for $1300 but didn’t tell me because it might have only given me “a couple thousand miles before the transmission would go”. He shoots down every question I have after that with “my service tech doesn’t have access to all the information I have.” He then denies my refund. I ask him why wasn’t I even told about the $1300 option and he says “we went with the best solution which would be a new transmission.” He then blames the “tech not having access to info” again and again. I asked why it took him 3 weeks to get back to me to deny my refund and why he ignored close to 10 voicemails and messages from me over 3 weeks. He kind of apologized and then says “if you come back to us, let me know and I’ll try and hook you up next time.”
I tried to talk to a general manager over the 3 weeks they ignored me and was told several times that they were on vacation til may! (It was February). This store is so poorly managed I would never go back. I don’t care about the money at this point. They wasted 3 weeks of my time while telling me they were going to give me a refund, stringing me along.
They’re probably okay at oil changes but I would never let them repair.

This review is to put Berman Subaru on blast and warn... - Justin B
This review is to put Berman Subaru on blast and warn women about how the service department will treat you differently. We bought a Crosstrek in 2013.
Car was great, price was right, sale was smooth, we did not have issues for years, and planned on buying a new car from them this fall. In early December we got new tires at Firestone. In late December we took the car to Berman for maintenance, and they had to replace a ball joint and realign the wheels. A few weeks later Chicago was hit with a heavy snow and we discovered our AWD was out when trying to get out of our garage. While inspecting the car we noticed a tiny plastic piece was missing on the front (some sort of access panel piece for maintenance) as well as a couple nuts from the tires. My wife took the car to Berman, told them we thought the mechanics messed up and did not connect a wire or something related to the AWD. After waiting for several hours, the mechanics tried to gaslight my wife, told her she was wrong, they were not responsible for the missing parts, and the AWD was working. The AWD part was funny because they had to push the car up the drive to get it to the maintenance area. My wife came back and told me what happened.
A couple weeks later the AWD went out again (I suspect it was a wire or connection that was pulled / loose from their work). I called Berman and spoke to a manager and they said they had previously fixed it (so they were lying to my wife). I eventually spoke to a high-level manager in their office, explained what happened, and how they were not honest with my wife. The manager was incredibly apologetic and offered to make us whole by fixing the AWD and replacing the missing parts on the car; he also said he was going to make a note in our file.
My wife took the car in this week to get an oil change and have them fix the AWD, and Berman told her there was no note in our file. The estimate they gave us included replacing things they replaced last year (breaks and rotors) as well as issues that stem from their messy work on the suspension in December (a loose control arm); it also included $150 for realignment (I am sure its related to suspension work) and we paid $150 for realignment in late December. I called the manager while my wife was there, and they changed their tone and agreed to at least replace the missing parts. Despite that, they still wanted to charge us around $1,300 for work that stemmed from their negligence / poor workmanship in December.
Ultimately, there has been a clear difference in how Berman has treated / spoke to me vs my wife. They talked to her like she was an idiot and brushed off her complaints. They only took complaints seriously when I intervened. Even then, they messed up our car which caused other problems and they want us to pay for their mistakes – it has a fraud’y feel to it. We purchased a car from Berman because we live close, and the purchase was fine. But if you plan on having Berman work on your car after purchase, we’d recommend you look elsewhere, especially if you’re a woman.

Eyesight Re-Calibration "Warranty SCAM" ***BEWARE*** - Mike M.
BEWARE!!! I would give a 0 Stars if I could..
I had a friend drive my Subaru over for a Eye Sight re-calibration after the windshield was replaced because I was out of town.
**(The car was previously hit and already had the eye sight fixed and re-calibrated by a different Subaru Dealer once before.. Now a rock chipped the windshield recently so we had the windshield replaced and now needed the eyesight re-calibrated again)**
They took advantage of my friend and told her that she needed to buy a $3,275 "warranty package" to be able to fix the eyesight to work.. She called me because she didn't know what to do, so I told her something is wrong and to not accept that warranty package.. So they charged her $138 for the visit because she came in and they looked at the car and told her they can only fix it with the warranty package..
We went to Grand Subaru, down the road and they had it fixed and ready to go within 1 Hour, with ZERO issues and without trying to scam us for over $3,000..
So on Napleton's Palatine Subaru's Invoice that we went to first, it said to call Chris Cantu Service Manager if we did not exceed or meet your expectations.. So I called and as soon as he picked up and I started saying, "I would like a refund for..., he right away smirked and said, "I'm not giving any refund".. I told him, I didn't even finish saying what the problem is.. When I finished telling him that we shouldn't be charged for the $138 as a "trip fee", when they couldn't fix a problem that a Dealer down the road fixed with no issues, he smirked again and said that he wont be giving any refund whatsoever.. Chris Cantu should not be working as a Service Manager when he has arrogance issues like this, taking advantage of people by trying to charge $3,275 for warranties and "trip charges" when it was THEIR own problem that they couldn't fix the eye sight..
Talk about the rudest customer service I have EVER received.. I would rate ZERO Stars if I could.
Their customer service is really bad. I was told that... - veronruth
Their customer service is really bad. I was told that parts will come in within a week and then a week became weekssss and NO ONE CALL to let us know. We have to call back to find out. When we called, they can't find my order and told me to bring my car back so that they can check on the parts numbers, which they should given that i was there the last time and they looked at my car. Upon my request, they checked again and then FOUND my records and told me that part would take a few MORE WEEKS!!!!!
