What Others Say
Worst car purchasing experience. Purchased a CPO 2019 Tiguan on 1/5/25 for our son to use while in school. The process took forever, they also would not give me the purchase agreement and let me register the car in my home state; they said it had to be registered in California. I understand California requires sales tax to be paid if you drive a car off the lot, but nothing in the California vehicle code says you have to register it in California. The DMV held the title and registration pending a smog check, the dealer failed to complete it before selling the car, and to top it off, they submitted the DMV paperwork with the wrong middle initial, so I am not even the legal owner. I pointed this issue out at signing, and was told it would be corrected before submitting it to the DMV.
When I received the title, I took it to the North Carolina DMV to reregister it and was told I need to get the title corrected before I can register it. I called and emailed the finance person (Armen Apayan) multiple times about the issue with no reply. I also emailed the salesperson, and he replied, saying he spoke to Armen, and Armen would get the issue resolved. It is now April 28th, and nothing has been done. I am also now outside of the 90-day grace period the state allows from the date of purchase to complete registration, and will now have to pay sales tax when I register it.
I should have stopped everything and said fix it now, or I'll walk but we were in a rush; we only had five days to move our son from NC to LA, get a car, set up an apartment, and get him settled before starting classes.
The car is great, but the sales customer service and management sucks. Guess we should have bought the Nissan we looked at down the street.
★☆☆☆☆ – Worst Service Experience at VW DTLA
I brought my car in for a routine 20K mile service and left feeling frustrated, disappointed, and taken advantage of. I’ve been a loyal VW customer for years and previously appreciated the dealership’s professionalism — but this was by far the worst service experience I’ve had.
Poor communication: I dropped the car off at 10am and was told it would be ready in about 4 hours. After more than 5 hours of waiting nearby, I couldn’t get anyone on the phone. I finally reached a rep just before 6pm — right as the shop was closing. If he hadn’t agreed to stay an extra 30 minutes, I would’ve been stranded in DTLA. Not a single update throughout the day.
Sloppy work: During AC service, they failed to reinstall the media system properly. There’s now a visible gap in the center console — about the thickness of two stacked credit cards. It wasn’t like that before.
Tire upsell pressure: I came in with a nail in one tire. Instead of offering to repair or replace that tire, they insisted I replace all four due to age — claiming they were 5 years old. I bought the car new in mid-2020. A local garage repaired the tire for $25 and confirmed the others were in excellent shape.
Questionable battery replacement: I was told the battery “failed their tests,” yet no one could explain what that meant. I’ve never had any battery issues whatsoever.
Overpriced AC diagnostic: I paid nearly $300 just for a diagnosis, and was told the condenser was leaking and needed replacement. A trusted local mechanic diagnosed it for free and quoted $400 less for the exact same job.
Unnecessary part replacements: As part of the standard service, they replaced perfectly functional parts like the windshield wipers — without consulting me.
Software update ignored: I specifically requested the latest over-the-air software update to be installed. It was completely overlooked.
In total, they attempted to upsell me on nearly $4,000 in service — for a car with just 20,000 miles and no accident history. That’s about 1/7th of the car’s total value, which is completely unreasonable.
Bottom line: My car is now in worse shape than before I brought it in. I wasted an entire day and left with zero trust in VW DTLA. I will not be returning.
I still believe Volkswagen makes amazing cars for the value. That said, I strongly recommend finding a trusted local garage — one that relies on word of mouth and long-term relationships. They won’t try to maximize short-term profit at your expense, and they’ll only recommend the repairs you actually need.
We bought a pre-owned Hyundai Elantra and were very pleased with the experience. RAZ ADAMIAN was very helpful from the initial online inquiry about the vehicle to the actual purchase. He was very professional and friendly. He was able to offer us exactly what we had asked for and didn't try any of the dealer tactics. We would definitely work with him again.
I brought my vehicle in for repair to VW of Downtown LA Normally taking a vehicle in to the dealer for repair is a nightmare but not at this dealer. Ryan from service from the moment I met him made me feel respected and special! He knows the meaning of “The customer always comes first” He explained everything in detail so I understood and when they had to keep my vehicle instead of sitting in a shoddy waiting area they arranged for a Lyft to pick me up and drop me off. I just wish that every business had excellent customer service like Volkswagen of Downtown LA. Thank you Ryan! You’re the best
I wanted to thank Kevin Valenzuela, Mark, and Christopher. I am extremely satisfied with my new car! I really appreciate your quality work and efforts to ensure that all of my expectations were met. I have to say this was by far the best car shopping experience. I will certainly recommend your services to all my friends and family. Again thanks for your customer services and for helping me get the car of my dreams. You guys and VW DTLA, I give you 100 stars.
Rami Zeid was an absolute blast to work with. He was able to get the exact car I wanted and at the best price in the city. The only thing I regret was not being able to do the whole sale in-person, but he still did a phenomenal even when I was not present. I was not in the best position financially and was still able to get approved. Rami has definitely earned my business for any of my future vehicle purchases, and you would be doing a disservice to yourself to not seek out his assistance. If a ten star rating was available, Rami absolutely deserves it.
