What Others Say
I purchased a 2017 Chevy Volt from Ken Garff Volvo on April 26, 2024. I specifically waited to buy a PHEV until I was sure that the up to $4,000 Clean Vehicle tax credit would apply. I assumed that the people working at the dealership were minimally competent to handle the process of buying a car and that they might have been actually doing something with the four hours of my life that they wasted screwing around with paperwork. I guess that this is what one gets for assuming. On Feb 17, 2025 I filed my taxes electronically, including Form 8936 which told me I was entitled to a $979 Clean Vehicle tax credit. My return was rejected half an hour later because the dealership failed to report the sale AT ALL to the IRS. After a MONTH of constantly having to call Ken Garff and the Volvo people on the east coast, the answer amounts to "Oops, our bad, sucks to be you." Apparently customer service is non-existent at this business, along with any form of ethics or accountability combined with an astounding display of incompetence.
Had a terrible experience with our second xc 60 leased from Ken Garff Volvo. We
Took the car home and immediately noticed the hybrid battery was defective. We called the dealership and they said they would
Like to make it right and would call us back. The manager called back to say they could roll us into another car for $2,000 more
Dollars. When we pushed back the manager
Actually got very short and rude. We played out the lease and that will be the last
Volvo. Just bought a Mercedes from their
Neighboring Ken Garff dealership and had a nice experience and great follow up service after the purchase.
Volvo is total xxxxx about lease return also, beware.
Nine months after paying cash for my new car I still don’t have the complete and final paperwork from the dealership. This means I have temporary tags and many trips to DMV to get them - wasting my time and money. Customer service and accuracy is really lacking. I’m just at my wits end and after trying four times to get them to respond the last piece of information I need, still no response. I cannot recommend this dealership to anyone. Sadly, my next step is to go to Small Claims Court, as I think it will take a judge to tell the dealership to provide the information required by law. Sad situation indeed. If you do buy a car from these people, be sure you have EVERYTHING you need for your title before you pay them. Lesson learned indeed!
This dealer has a culture of kindness and help. Everyone including the lot people asked if we needed anything at all. There was no heavy, keep you there till you bought a car at this dealership. Just plane honest and complete help and information about the cars. Both the dealership and the shop are clean and well cared for. Our salesman's name was Alan Satterfield and we thoroughly enjoyed our purchase journey with him. We came from southern Colorado to buy the car which was equipped as we wanted. We did a lot of pre purchase education and work and discussion with Alan prior to coming to Utah to buy the car. The car was as described with no hidden surprises in the sale. An honest dealer.
Had my eyes set on a 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge Ultimate and saw one with my exact 'wish list' of options advertised for sale at this dealership in January 2023. When inquiring, I was told that it was already sold, AND that the next several coming in had been reserved with a deposit. Fair enough. I was told that they had one being sent to them, coming in April 2023, and that I could reserve it with a $2000 deposit, as well as fully configure it. As that was acceptable, I paid the deposit, and as instructed went into the VOLVO website and built the car I wanted, and forwarded the PDF file to the salesperson. However, during the following month, things went south with the salesperson, who appeared not to read or listen to anything I emailed, sent or told him. In his response to the built, he confirmed few of the colors and options I had chosen. 'Back and forth' never fixed this, and finally, after I pasted the built into the email text one by one, and told him in person, he replied by informing me that 'a,b and c' were not 'standard' (even though the priced built on the Volvo website permitted it), and that if I 'really wanted' those options (i.e. 'black theme' instead of 'chrome', different wheel style etc.), the car would not be available until 2023 and then it likely would be a '2024' model which could not yet be built, so if I wanted a recharge this year, I would have to accept a built that was only partially mine, and, oh, now would not arrive until July-August 2023 (instead of initially said to be April).
Add to that, that despite several requests, I was unable to get a receipt and written conditions for the deposit, just told that it was 'refundable' until the car was at the dealership, I was also told that they didn't want to see my trade in until the new car was in the dealership meaning (to me) that they could offer an unacceptable price for my 6 year old car, forcing me to either accept it or lose my $2K. Also, when the salesperson sent attachment files through their proxy server (EmailService@DealerSocket.com) - which happened half the time, the attachments disappeared, with the salesperson telling me, that it was probably because I didn't know how to open a pdf file, despite sending him screenshots of the pdf files I did got in the emails sent directly from the Ken Garff server. Finally, when I told him I had enough, and wanted to stop further negotiation, I was told to email my CC number (or call him) as they otherwise 'could not refund my deposit', neither of which I wanted to do, this being unsecure. Instead, I sent the information in a letter to the sales manager, in it also explaining my disappointment, but never heard anything back, and had to inquire as to when I could expect the refund.
Of the 8 cars I have purchased from Ken Garff over 25 years (Hyundai, Mercedes), this is my first highly unsatisfactory experience with a Ken Garff new car purchase.
I really want a Volvo CX60 recharge, but with Ken Garff being the only Volvo dealership in the state, I may be forced to get another brand, as even if I am able to buy it out of state, it will have to be serviced at the Ken Garff Volvo dealership, which if anything like their sales department, I would like to avoid.
Brandon did an outstanding job servicing my Vovo. He was professional and friendly. Lucky to get him
