I have purchased about 20 to 25 vehicles in my lifetime of 46 years and never once dealt with a company as rude and uncaring about their customers as the Denny Menholt Chevrolet and Toyota of Rapid City! Everybody should enjoy buying their first vehicle but for my 18-year-old daughter, Denny Menholt Dealerships made that impossible! had her eye on a Hyundai Elantra at Denny Menholt Chevrolet/ Toyota that was a little over $10,000. Her grandfather and her ended up purchasing the vehicle and before she even got it home the check engine light came on! She called me and told me and I took my OBD2 tester over and it said the PCV valve was bad which I replaced the next day. 3 days later the check engine light came on again so she took the car back to the dealership and they had it for a week or two before telling my daughter that they replaced the PCV valve and did an internal cleaning/ flush to the engine. She picked up the car that afternoon and before she got home once again the check engine light came on! So the next morning she takes it back to the dealership and that is where it sat for a total of 3 months out of the six months that she owned it! The service manager at Chevrolet said they were doing some internal cleaning on it with a machine where it cleans the whole inside of the engine. She gets the car back and once again the check engine light comes on a week later. She takes the car back to the dealership and they tell her that they hooked it up to the internal cleaning system they use twice! Then said the best thing to do now would be to see if we could trade it outright for another vehicle at the Menholt Toyota. We go to Menholt Toyota and the sales manager there said to us "they won't even give us $1,000 for trade in to another vehicle because the check engine light is on!!" And then they tell us the best option is to take it to the actual Hyundai dealer here in Rapid City and have them assess what is actually wrong with it since they work on that brand and they might be able to at least get it to a tradeable condition! WHEN WE LEAVE THEIR STORE MY DAUGHTER STARTS TO CRY BECAUSE SHE IS SO FRUSTRATED FROM THE HASSLE WE'VE HAD TO GO THROUGH SO FAR!! We take it to Liberty Hyundai and we have to pay $195 diagnostic fee and they hook it up and get all kinds of bad readings! So the service manager at Liberty Hyundai had their mechanics remove the valve cover and she said it was one of the most disgusting and severely neglected motors she had seen! She took a picture of the inside showing that it was so full of sludge and varnish and corrosion that no wonder why it kept popping the check engine light and going through PCV valves! When we arrived the service manager told us that if it was her daughter that purchased that car she would get an attorney and sue Denny Menholt Chevrolet! She said she almost guarantees that vehicle had the check engine lights on when the last person traded it in as well and Menholt Chevrolet obviously didn't do any kind of inspection before selling it to my daughter!! My daughter and her grandmother end up taking the car back down to Menholt and they work a deal to trade the car over for another vehicle. She ends up finding a Subaru that was about $5,000 more than her Hyundai and she purchased it thinking there would only be about $5,000 more added on from the price of the other car so a total of $15,000 Plus the Denny Menholt Permagaurd plan which was $2181 x 2 (because she paid for that plan on her other car as well which she didn't get back towards the trade in price towards the Subaru) and plus an extended warranty of roughly $2793 x 2 and they used half of that and applied it towards a down payment on the Subaru. So with the $12,973 that her original loan was for+ 15,000 for the Subaru minus about 9,000 for the trade-in value from her other car (THAT WAS A LEMMON) she now owes $21,000 for a Subaru that the Subaru dealership said they wouldn't even give $8,000 for because of problems!!

We've been buying Toyotas from Denny Menholdt and their predecessor for years. The service after the sale is also top notch.
