What Others Say
Alright, so the service this dealership offers is absolutely unbelievable. From the sales manager, Lance, on down. I’m a small business owner myself, so knowing that customer service means is absolutely everything, I can say without hesitation, that Volvo Cars Carlsbad has been the best car buying experience my wife and I have ever had. Not only did they make the sales process easy and hassle-free, they explained everything to us thoroughly and worked HARD to accommodate our budget and very specific needs.
I was shocked that Volvo Financial was able to beat our local credit union’s APR. The financing process was handled smoother and faster than anything I’ve experienced in past with dealerships. Thats a testament to these guys being absolute pros, knowing the system they’re working within, and the contracts they execute. Not only was it a quick experience, but they thoroughly explained every step along the way. We never, even slightly felt like we were being “sold.”
The cherry on top of the cake was that they made not one, but two trips to our home when we left things at the dealership. We live in Escondido, so that’s a long trip across the 78 in rush hour traffic. Olin, our sales rep, even showed up with my 4 year old daughter’s favorite stuffy buckled in to the front seat when she left it at the dealership. To this day, she says to me “daddy, do you remember that nice man who sold you your car?” Yep, that means a lot to her and to me.
Look, I may have gone into way too much detail with this review, but my experience was truly extraordinary with Volvo Carlsbad. It’s why we went from a Lexus and a Mercedes household to a 2 Volvo household in two weeks time. If you’re looking to buy a Volvo in San Diego or Orange counties, make the trip out to Volvo Carlsbad, you will not be disappointed.
I bought a used Volvo certified 2022 XC60 on-line, sight unseen from Volvo Cars Carlsbad that listed on Carfax. The car as optioned is not exactly common, but was exactly what i wanted having driven similar cars locally. It was nerve wracking at the start with the car being 1,200 miles away out of state and never having stepped foot in the dealership, but Michael Page and Steve Campbell were great to work with and made for a seemless transaction. I got a great car, exactly as described, at a very good price with excellent service. They even handled shipping the car to my home at a reasonable price. I'd definitly work with Volvo Cars Carlsbad again. Extremely satisfied.
After recent warranty service, I discovered that the technician had incorrectly re-installed the seat airbag and damaged multiple parts of the interior (with photographic proof of before and after service) without noticing or fixing them. Had I not checked the dealer’s work, we would be driving our family vehicle with a trapped airbag set to explode inside our seat.
Long story short: Recognizing that the situation with the Service Manager was beyond salvage after several interactions, I waited until the vehicle was repaired and out of their hands before submitting this review. The new Service Manager confessed himself that things had been “running like this for 20 years.” I would discourage anyone from trusting Carlsbad Volvo with any further business for both safety and quality of service reasons, and instead go to Volvo Cars San Diego.

Over the course of multiple days, I spoke with and left messages with a service advisor about the airbag installation issue, expecting an urgent response to correct an obvious safety liability. After waiting 2 full days, I called and emailed the General Manager, which finally resulted in a service call from Allen, the Service Manager. The conversation was sincere and I was reassured that the issues would be corrected immediately. Allen confided that he was new to the dealer, trying to improve things, and the service department had been “running like this for 20 years.”
I made clear in an email to the GM and Service Manager that this was a serious breach of trust in their ability to ensure their customer’s safety and satisfaction. I hoped that further conversation with them would rebuild trust that they seriously acknowledged the various points of failure (quality of technical work, maintaining vehicle condition, customer communication). Unfortunately while the dealer did correct the workmanship issues, further interactions with the Service Manager proved that they are not to be trusted again with my business or family’s safety.
When asking for an explanation of why it took 2+ days to acknowledge the airbag issue, Allen replied that getting back to me was a high priority, but there were other “higher priorities.” This is an unacceptable answer for what should have been a 3 minute phone call after giving a customer an unsafe vehicle. In general, Allen’s inconsistent customer service is unsettling, ranging from sincere to dismissive, contemptuous, and unprofessional.
In an effort to deflect responsibility and point blame to the customer, the dealer claimed that my removal of a seat-back panel is why the “Master” level technician (who doesn’t know how to re-install an airbag or replace other parts he damaged) may have damaged the car’s interior while removing the seat. Given these allegations, I asked to discuss the details and examine the vehicle together when I brought it in. The service manager Allen was dismissive, claiming he’s “not an expert” in the details and “we’re fixing the issue anyways.” By comparison, I’m an experienced engineer in mechanical design and assembly that wanted to discuss the visible evidence contradicting their claims. However, the dealership couldn't substantiate claims that are, by definition, their expertise and would rather lose me as a customer.
The worst service we have ever encountered in all our years. Please think twice. The sales team was dishonest and the service department as well. We purchased a car that had been in two accidents and had a damaged axel. (They replaced the part before I bought it) I brought it in two months later noticing the noise. They denied hearing it, so although I still heard it, I assumed it must not be serious or of course they would have said so. Not true. Now Steve the manager denies all responsibility.
I found a vehicle for sale at Carlsbad Volvo on a Tuesday. I spoke to Mike Shoemaker and informed him that I lived in Monterey and would not be able to fly down until Saturday. Mike not only agreed to hold the car for me, but he also picked me and my girlfriend up at the airport on Saturday. I was worrisome about flying down without seeing the vehicle, however, Mike took pictures and walked around the vehicle to ensure there were no surprises when I arrived. Everything was smooth, and my paperwork was already filled out when I arrived. I signed the numerous forms and was on may way in 30 minutes. Thank you Mike Shoemaker.
Looked at a buying a new volvo from different dealerships. Sean at Carlsbad volvo was by far my favorite person I dealt with. He was honest, authentic, and never pushy. It was so refreshing! Such a pleasant experience. Carlsbad Volvo gave me the best price AND gave me an amazing financing rate. I would highly recommend Carlsbad Volvo.
