I wanted to share an experience my son had with Sheehy Subaru of Fredericksburg while traveling out of state from Pa. While visiting friends in Virginia he had all of the warning lights come on on his 2018 Crosstrek. I am a mechanic by profession but I could not help since he was out of state. I had him take it to the closest Subaru dealer which was Sheehy. They informed him that his car had code P000C. They suggested an $1150 engine flush because they said there was a lot of varnish build up when they removed the oil fill cap. This they claimed was because oil changes were not done at proper intervals. If the flush did not work his car would need cam sprockets and an ECM which would total an additional $6200. After searching online for the code I declined both services and he drove the car home. We have owned this car since it has 27000 miles on it. I have changed oil and filter every 5000 miles using a quality oil and filter. 1000 miles sooner than recommended by Subaru. When I checked the "lots of varnish build up" I found that any mechanic would be happy with the very small amount present after 92000 miles. My biggest issue is that there is a service bulletin, from Subaru, that directly addresses the code, Service Bulletin 02-163-16R revised 3/8/19. Sheehy surely knew of this service bulletin but ignored it. So for $152 for a genuine Subaru updated part and a half hour of time I replaced the oil control valve "A" to repair the code. I can only imagine the amount of uninformed people that they scam with unnecessary repairs.
I have purchase 4 new vehicles from Sheehy Subaru in Fredericksburg VA. I received great deals on all 4 new Subarus and the service department has been excellent.
I had a decent sales experience—the salesman I worked with was good, not too pushy, and overall, the process wasn’t bad. However, my issue started after I took the car home. When I tried to remove the front license plate holder they installed, I noticed they had scratched the xxxx out of my bumper putting it on. I called to speak with one of the sales managers, Matt, and he just sounded completely disinterested. I didn’t want to drive over 40 minutes just to be told there was nothing they could do. At this point, I was really frustrated with the lack of care for the car once the deal was done. They might offer good deals, and the salespeople do their jobs well, but I’ve had this car for less than a month, and I’m already dealing with paint damage that can’t be buffed out. During the call, Matt claimed he couldn’t understand what I was saying. I explained clearly that when they installed my front plate, the screws scratched my bumper badly—yet he still didn’t seem to care. Super disappointing experience. If this is how management handles something this simple, good luck getting anything warrantied or replaced if it’s their fault.
