JR in sales started the experience with a easy not pushy attitude. Was near closing and he stayed late so I could take car home that evening. Whole time spent less then hour and half. Got the price I wanted in less then 2 minutes.
In response to an internet ad I purchased a 2009 Grand Marquis from this dealer June 4, 2016. For a number of reasons I did not test drive the car prior to purchase. It needed a set of front tires and I knew that prior to purchase. Two days later I went to pick up the car (100 plus miles from where I live) with a friend who was going to drive it back to Illinois for me. Later that evening I had my first opportunity to drive the vehicle. I soon discovered: 1) the car drifted to the right when hands were off the wheel, 2) the parking brake release did not work, 3) the headlights were completely out of adjustment, one pointing towards the sky and the other to the ground and 4) the face plate for the cup holder was missing. A week or so later I went to a local tire shop for front tires and an alignment. After an hour the service manager told me the could not do an alignment because the frame appeared to be bent. He recommended a frame shop for further work. The frame shop took a quick look and told me the control arm seemed to be bent, and the left wheel was one to 1.5 inches further back than the right. The next day he was able to pull the left suspension sub-assembly back to where it belonged, making an alignment possible. The dealer response to all of this was that they didn't see how everything I described was possible, given the rigorous inspection their cars are subjected to prior to being offered for sale. The implication seemed to be they thought I had damaged the car within the few days that had passed since purchase. That I didn't exercise the care I should have in buying this car is not lost on me. However, that does not change the fact that the dealer was perfectly willing to offer the vehicle to a buyer in the condition it was in. That speaks to the consideration they have for their customers, I believe.
I found the experience at this dealership to be less than desirable. As we all know, purchasing a vehicle is a major thing for potential buyers. This dealership has a sales staff that have no customer service skills. While shopping for a new vehicle, all other dealerships, with the exception of this one displayed a sense of urgency. Usually, when you approach a dealership, the salespeople are eager to greet the buyer in hopes of establishing a good first impression. This was not the case here. This might have been due to the fact that it was late Saturday afternoon, and the dealership was very close to closing time. As we entered, the staff was all huddled up chit-chatting and one of the salespeople asked us " Are you here looking for someone?" This was the first indication that they were not interested in making a sale. When we left, not one salesperson said "Thank you for coming in"!!! Besides the bad customer service, the salesperson who ended up helping us was far from helpful.
