What Others Say
I purchased my 2014 Ford Explorer from Ed Koehn in Rockford on November 22nd. Approximately three hours after purchasing the vehicle, it experienced a long crank upon starting. I brought it back to the Rockford dealership on Monday morning, where they refused to address the issue.
I then took the vehicle to Ed Koehn in Wayland, where they replaced the fuel pump under the warranty (I paid the $100 deductible). I drove the car for two days, after which the long crank issue returned. I contacted the Wayland location and was instructed to bring the vehicle back for re-diagnosis. I dropped it off on Monday, December 29th.
The dealership had my car for a total of five weeks. During this time, communication was minimal unless I initiated contact. After several weeks, they reported that all six fuel injectors were bad, stating they believed the previous owners had used the wrong type of gasoline. One employee informed me that the warranty would cover the repair so we said they had the go-ahead to tear the engine down.
After several days of hearing nothing, I called again and spoke with a different employee who told me the warranty company was not covering the repair and that they would complete the work for a discounted rate of $1,000. I questioned how I could be held responsible for damage allegedly caused by the previous owner, especially since the dealership’s website states that all vehicles undergo a thorough inspection prior to sale. I was told the vehicle was sold “as is” and that they would not cover the repair.
At this point, I no longer trusted their diagnosis after obtaining another professional opinion. I was charged an additional $120 for the teardown, which I only authorized because I was falsely told it would be covered by the warranty.
When I went to pick up my vehicle last week—after five weeks—it had approximately 16 inches of snow on it, indicating it had not been started or driven in several weeks. Upon starting the car, the check engine light was on and the vehicle was misfiring. When I initially dropped it off, the car was fully drivable aside from the long crank issue. There was no check engine light and no misfire.
At this point, I have driven the vehicle for a total of two days and three hours and have paid an additional $220 with absolutely no resolution. I now have to pay for a tow truck to take the vehicle to a different mechanic to avoid damaging the catalytic converter. I have attempted to go through the chain of command with no resolution.
I am absolutely disgusted and heartbroken by how this situation was handled. I come from a family of Ford loyalists—my father dedicated 18 years of service to Ford. However, due to this experience, I will not be purchasing any future vehicles from Ed Koehn and will be advising family and friends to do the same.
I understand that I purchased a used vehicle, but when you buy from a well-known dealership, you expect some level of protection when serious issues arise within three hours of ownership. This entire experience has been a headache, compounded by poor communication and inconsistent information from multiple employees.
I would strongly advise against purchasing a vehicle from any Ed Koehn dealership.
Do not trust Ed Koehler Chevrolet! They swap used cars between their dealerships to hide the fact that they have been in accidents and have had work done. My sales guy, Grant Boven, assured me that no powertrain work had been done by Ed Koehler on the vehicle I was purchasing. However, I later discovered that their Greenville location had performed extensive transmission work. A local shop informed me that my transmission looked new but poorly done, with bolts missing.
When I confronted Ed Koehler Chevrolet, they admitted that their Greenville location had worked on the transmission. They took the car in for repair, but after weeks without it, a transmission mount bolt fell out just days after I got it back. When I returned to Ed Koehler Chevrolet, they told me it was my problem and refused to do anything further to fix it. This is the first time I’ve ever left a negative review for a company, but this experience was unacceptable.
I feel we were taken advantage of the appraisal guy doesn't have a clue.they took advantage of us. But I heard the Ed Koehn is a crook now I know thanks for nothing
Originally purchased a 2017 jeep grand cherokee from Ed koehn on 10/31/22. Took ownership, signed my trade paperwork and financing and left. 2 months later I get told they messed up the financing and that they were unable to secure the loan and that we needed to return the jeep or face grand theft auto charges. December 17th we returned with the vehicle and the owner said he did us a favor and got us financed through new york prime. However they failed to mention that's in hour financing and in turn charging us almost a 28% interest rate and over 720 per month for 72 months for a 2017 jeep with 92K miles on it. I contacted the original financing because the dealer said they didn't approve terms, however they told me everything was good to go however the dealer never sent over the paperwork. Now I am having to voluntarily give the jeep back due to the cost per month, lack of warranty we asked to add in because we have "equity". They wish. Horrible dealer and finance company. Stay away from Ed koehn at all costs. Far better dealerships around to purchase through with far better customer service. Now I'm out two vehicles because of their bait and switch for finance to keep money in their pockets. NYP is owned by Aaron koehn. Also all 3 people we originally work with have quit so now e has any record of our jeep purchase.
I purchased a $38k mistake on August 13, I had it for a day and a half before bringing it back with a list of issues. They had the vehicle for almost two months. One week after purchasing the vehicle, my salesman called me and asked for my social security number over the phone because he did not get all of the information he needed, this alone seems kind of shady to me. When the vehicle was returned to me finally on 9/21, a lot on the list was not completed. I was also informed I had a $500 deductible, although I was told it was a $100 deductible that vanished if I brought the car to them for service. I argued that I only had the almost $40k car for a day and a half and it was a bit ridiculous, but it got me nowhere. I paid the $500 to get my car back. I was asked to bring it back the following Monday 10/10 and the work they missed could be completed in a few hours - minus the cracked moonroof I didn't notice at purchase - They were yet to give me an answer on if my warranty would cover that.
I brought it back at 12:30pm on 10/10 as we scheduled. I was told they weren't sure if it would be able to be completed that day or not and they would give me a call as soon as they found out. I did not receive a call and my car was not completed. At almost 1:30pm the next day, I received a call that my car would again not be completed that day. I was told if I can get a ride to Rockford (I live in Wyoming) they would give me a loaner. I was able to pick up the loaner - thankfully, because the following day I was informed (only after calling) that my car would not be completed again. I was told they were going to keep it an extra day, but that would ensure they had time to detail and buff out scratches that were agreed upon at purchase that had not been done yet.
Four days after dropping the car off for what I was told was a few hour job I finally went to pick it back up… and it wasn’t done. Thankfully it was only half an hour wait until it was(ish). When they brought my car out I didn’t even bother looking at it because I knew it wasn’t done. The scratches on the paint they put some wax on and didn’t even bother wiping off completely. They vacuumed the front and back seat, the trunk space is still full of animal fur from the previous owner. There was still food stuck inside the cup holders, dirt all over the dash and the windows were still filthy. Being dirty woudn't have bothered me so much if they hadn't kept it an extra day just to clean it.
I have found more issues since I received the car back, but it is not worth bringing it back to them for service. I'll find another dealer.
I have kept track of all communications with them over the last two months. I was going to paste it, but Google says it's too long. (I'll share if you want it!) The only time I would ever receive an update was if I called. The only reason I am giving two stars rather than one is because they at least did keep me in a loaner vehicle.
10/10 would not recommend this dealer ever.
If I could give 0 stars I would they are scam artist racist and rude I would advise you to take your money somewhere else where you would be appreciated
