Seller's Comments

This 1978 Ford Pinto Runabout was purchased by the current owner circa ~1990 and subsequently modified and refurbished. It is powered by a fuel-injected and turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four linked to a five-speed manual transmission, and further modifications include an aluminum intercooler and radiator, stainless-steel charge piping, three cooling fans, a custom exhaust system, adjustable rear control arms, and a custom front air dam. The car is finished in orange over brown and orange tartan upholstery, and it is also equipped with 14 steel wheels, staggered-width tires, front disc brakes, heavy-duty sway bars, and power windows. This modified Pinto is now offered on dealer consignment with a Standard Marti Report, service records, and a Washington state title. The body is finished in orange and features a custom front air dam, a glass rear hatch, black bodyside moldings, sport mirror housings, Ford-logo mud flaps, and chrome bumpers with black impact guards. The car is believed to have been repainted some time ago. Steel 14 wheels wear styled covers and BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport tires that measure 185/60 in front and 245/60 at the rear, and have 2012 production date codes. The appraisal displayed in the gallery notes that the car is equipped with heavy-duty sway bars and adjustable rear control arms. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The front bucket seats and individual rear seats are upholstered in brown and orange tartan cloth and vinyl, and faux woodgrain trim accents the dashboard. Appointments include a heater, power windows, and an AM radio. The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a suite of VDO instrumentation, including a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for boost pressure, voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The digital odometer shows 5k miles, which is said to represent the mileage since the refurbishment. Total mileage is unknown. The 2.3-liter inline-four was fitted with a fuel injection setup, a Garrett turbocharger, an aluminum intercooler, stainless-steel piping, silicone couplers, and a custom exhaust system during the refurbishment circa ~2000. Cooling is handled by an aluminum radiator and three electric fans. Recommissioning work completed in preparation for the sale included completing fluid services and replacing the battery, a fuel injection module, and ignition components. The associated service record displayed in the gallery notes that the accessory belt requires replacement, and fuel and exhaust repairs are recommended. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a replacement five-speed manual transmission. The Standard Marti report lists production information and equipment. The Washington state title carries a Classic brand, and it lists yellow as the vehicle color.
