Much as Mercedes-Benz did with AMG (which was, at that time, a tuning/racing company separate from the manufacturer), Jaguar turned to their racing partner, Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR), to form JaguarSport. The first result of their collaboration was the XJR-15, and TWR provided significant input on the design and production of the XJ220. The two companies also collaborated on a less esoteric model: the XJR-S. Initially released in 1988, the XJR-S featured a special V12 not shared with standard models, distinctive bodywork, unique suspension tuning, and special alloy wheels. The first 326 examples came equipped with 5.3L V12s producing 318hp in late 1989 displacement was increased to 6.0L, increasing power to 328hp. Initially only offered to the European/Asian markets, the XJR-S was brought to American shores to celebrate the launch of the XJ220 supercar (which was, somewhat ironically, not street legal in the US until the Show or Display exemption in 2001). Offered only in a limited series of 100 examples, the US-market XJR-S was exclusively available for the 1993 model year. While the previous cars were based on the styling of the original XJ-S, the American models featured the updated interior/exterior of the 1991 facelifted XJS and were available in both coupe and convertible variants. The incredible 1993 Jaguar XJR-S 6.0 Asprey Limited Edition Coupe featured here is finished in its stunning, factory-original color combination of Signal Red over Cream leather. This particular example, completed by JaguarSport in Coventry in late 1992, is number 40 of the 100 XJR-S models built to U.S. specifications in 1993 and one of only 22 coupes produced in its color. Today, this limited edition model displays only 42,128 actual miles and showcases a long list of standard equipment in addition to its special TWR-tuned V12. As one of the rarest and most collectible variants of the XJS, I believe the investment potential of this magnificent motorcar will grow beyond your imagination. We are proud to offer this stunning Jaguar XJR-S to the most particular collector, investor, or enthusiast who appreciates the historical importance of this largely underrated British classic.
