Sometimes the Best Work Truck Is the One You Don't Have to Make Payments on for Years

If you need a truck for work, the math can get pretty simple.

You need something that can haul equipment, pull a trailer, and get the job done. You probably don't need a giant touchscreen or a truck that costs as much as the equipment you're hauling.

That's where an older heavy-duty pickup can make a lot of sense.

This 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT has a 6.6L Duramax turbodiesel, Allison 1000 5-speed automatic, and 4WD. It's the kind of straightforward setup that appeals to someone who wants a dedicated work truck for job sites, farm chores, or hauling around King County.

At 160,047 miles, the important questions are about condition, maintenance, and whether the truck fits the work you need it to do. The external engine and transmission oil coolers are also worth noting for heavy-duty utility.

And there's something refreshing about a truck with cloth seats, physical controls, and a job to do. You can put your money toward the work instead of paying for features you may never use.

If you're comparing a newer pickup with an older heavy-duty truck, this Sierra is worth a look. The right value isn't always the newest truck. Sometimes it's the one that gives you the capability you need at a price that makes sense for your business.
